 | Feedback/Idea for GWI Hi
Hopefully a GWI rep views the forums, after reading about Teksavy in Canada on DSLreports I was wondering if GWI would consider offering a service for gamers utilizing better backbone with good peering for an extra charge? I for one would definately go for it and I know a lot of gamers who would too.

| Sounds like a network neutrality no-no in my opinion. Here's the route to my favorite Day of Defeat: Source server... I don't know how I could possibly get any better than that really. The trip across Cogent to DC is similar in latency.

1 edit | Well right now im using Gamerail, and my pings have dropped significantly to the servers I frequent, the GWI backbones have terrible peering.
We use Midmaine DSL at work and they use way better backbones, Level3, At&t and Alter. those backbones have way better peering contracts. GWI uses Gnap and Cogentco, the latter being aweful, and Gnap not much better. |
|
 | And how can it be a no-no? Tecksavy customers have pretty good routing by default, but can step up to high quality peered routing for a small charge, they dont make you pay it and it only really is of interest to hardcore gamers like myself.
After this free month on gamerail im going to being paying $10 a month to use it and its worth every penny, ask my bud in Montreal, his pings dropped from 70's on our NY server to a steady 28, and mid to low 30's on all east coast servers, its all about the peering. |

We are looking at adding a third uplink early next year. However, if we do so, it will automatically be available to everyone.
Gamers are important to us. We are always interested in gamer feedback. Keep it coming.

 | Hey thats good to hear, any idea what provider it will be?
Thanks for taking time to reply. |
|
 | Please let it be Level3 pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee |

 | Well I put an order in today for MidMaine DSL and phone, slightly less speed than I have now but if its anything like what we have at work i'll be more than happy with latency and backbones/routing. |
|
 | BAhhh had Midmaine installed on the second line to my house today, its ADSL and they wont take the line off interleaved into Fastpath meaning 45ms pings to the gateway lol, all they have to do is remotely change it to fastpath on the DSLAM, Verizon did that for no problem while on the phone with them a while ago, so I cancelled it the same day it was installed. The reason our latency at work is so good is that its SDSL, 5ms pings to the gateway. Its a shame because Midmaine use top notch backbones, I really hope that GWI adds another higher quality backbone soon as was mentioned earlier in this post by the man himself :/ |

 | reply to astokes Always nice to see fkittred checking in. |

 | I'd just love to know why gaming over UDP is so crappy on GWI even when the pings are low and stable? I mean with a 32 ping shoot and the shot is delayed big time, the connection is great for downloading but garbage for online gaming.
Oh and its not my PC, I have a pretty high spec gaming machine. |

| reply to astokes Astokes, do you use a router? I had a Linksys router and it was nearly impossible to play Source games from behind it. It would transmit packets out of order. This would ultimately cause the game to crash, among other things. Switching to a Zyxel router solved all of these problems for me, and the latency indicated in games is right on with the ICMP roundtrip times. |
|
 | No router, I have two PC's running off of a switch seeing as GWI allows five DHCP connections. |
