I would LOVE to see a championship fighter from the boxing world fight a champion from the MMA world.
Of course using MMA rules.
I've heard/read so much crap about how a real boxer would just own a MMA fighter....even fighting under MMA rules.
I would pay HUGE amounts of $$$$ to see a fight between a boxing champion and a MMA champion.
comments????
ps... I'm cheering for MMA |

But IMO, it is alot harder to be great in MMA than in boxing because you have to be well rounded in all aspects of fighting and be dominant in a couple aspects to be at the top. For instance, Anderson Silva who is the UFC middleweight champion, and who I consider the best pound for pound fighter today. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do. His best assest is his Muay Thai in which he has won profesional bouts. He has also won a professional bout in boxing and his striking is regarded as best in the business. But if the fight goes to the ground he relies on his world class jiu jitsu.
But this is what it takes to be the best in MMA. In boxing you just have to concentrate on standing up and punching.
EDIT And while we are on the topic of MMA vs Boxing, one of the biggest complaints against MMA is that it's too brutal and dangerous.
Well boxing averages 10-11 deaths per year. MMA has never had a death in a sanctioned event. There has been 1 death at an unsanctioned event in a foreign country in the history of MMA. MMA is much safer. Boxers take repeated blows to the head over a longer period of time in fight. Boxers get standing 8 counts and go back at it. Boxers main target is the head. MMA it is the entire body. Many more ways to win in MMA equals less head trauma. If a boxer can get back up before the count of 10 they can continue. In MMA a flash knockout and the bout is over. No standing 8 count to clear the head. MMA fights can end with submissions which majority do not cause injury unless the opponent does not tap out, in which it is the fighters decision to get injured.
This is not saying MMA is a safe sport, it's not. It's fighting. But it IS safer than boxing. |

First one.
Besides, there are more likely a tons of boxing fights for each MMA fight. I expect to see more deaths from MMA as it becomes even more popular. There are so many leagues now.
But on-topic, obviously MMA fighter would win with MMA rules... |

| reply to fozngoof You don't need to pay HUGE amounts of money. You need to find early UFCs, 1-10, I'd say. That's when UFC was nowhere near MMA. It was pure one discipline vs other discipline. Striker vs boxer, karate vs sumo, etc... 200lbs karate dude owning 600+lbs sumo monster. Those were good old times. -- "In a fight between you and the world, bet on the world." - Franz Kafka |

| reply to fozngoof I think Boxing has lost its shine it seems to be ridden with fixed fights, crooked managers and over priced PPV fights. Its a shame to but I still love watching the ESPN classic fights from time to time. -- Team Discovery-Join the fight |

There are literally thousands of MMA fights every year. Go to sherdog and search the fight finder.
Modern MMA has been around for almost 15 years now if you count the UFC as the first org. Vale Tudo (No rules) fights in Brazil and Japan have been around since the 20's. The rules now-a-days are as safe for MMA as they have ever been. Sure I think you will see the odd death or so. You do in every sport. NBA, NFL, baseball, MMA won't be any different. It really is not as brutal as the casual or non informed person thinks it is. |

1 edit | reply to Loco He's not going to come to MMA. Not enough money. He won't make near the money in MMA that he does in boxing. Besides, he'd get beat by any MMA'ist with a decent ground game. The top guys would make him look silly. |

Why would Cuban pay him $30 mil when the top guys that have been doing it all their life only make $500,000/fight? Makes no sense. I don't think it would break any PPV records by that much. And he's going to get destroyed if he fights anyone with a wrestling or Jiu Jitsu background.
I assume he would be fighting at either the 145 or 155 division. At 145 the top guys are Urijah Faber(Wrestler/Jiu-Jitsu), Jens Pulver (MFS Elite Fighter), Jeff Curran (Gracie Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt). They would all have him on the ground and pounded out or submitted within 1 minute.
At 155 lbs it gets even worse for him. Those guys are way too strong for him.
