WIndows Live OneCare Upgrade to 2.0?

I have Windows Live OneCare - currently v 1.6.2111.38

I can buy a new v 2.0 free after rebate at Staples. This is a better deal than renewing my subscription with MSFT for $49 or whatever it costs.

So what's the upgrade process to go from the 1.6 to the 2.0 and is there an advantage? (2.0 generally sells for more than 1.5 which sells for more than 1.0)

thanks

May I ask why are you using Windows Live OneCare?

It seems to work nicely for me, maintains itself, does tune ups and backups, and doesn't hog resources like NIS did. And it's often free.

Windows Live OneCare 2.0 is being rolled out to current customers in stages. You can download the latest version from the Windows Live OneCare website or wait for the upgrade to 2.0 to occur on its own.

I'll be honest here in that I'm not sure how you would go about moving from a current subscription to a retail box-based subscription. Worst case scenario I *believe* would be cancelling the current subscription (specifically, not renewing it when it expires) and then using the retail box information for the following year.

Might not hurt to call us to ask - 866-OneCare is the number, available 24/7. They know way more on this than I do.

Hope that helps,

Aaron

You'll need to log in to your live.com account.

Once you have, go to your OneCare Member Center (»onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/···ault.htm)

Go to the Update account information.

Click on Windows Live OneCare under "Your Services".

Under End Date select "Renew this Service".

Then "click here to enter PIN". That's where you can enter the Serial Number off your new retail box.

For me I paid $10 to buy a new copy and that covered the renewal for a year.

Hope it helps.

I got the new 2.0 retail package (I think it's 2.0 as that's what I ordered).

Thanks for the instructions on how to update the subscription at the online member center.

What's the best way to get it to go from v1.6 to v2.0 on the computers?
