DI-624 WPA causing slow LAN speed

I've got a REV: C DI-624 which I updated to the latest D-Link approved FW 2.76 using the disaster recovery directions. The setup was as follows until last night:
SSID off
superG no turbo
WEP
Shared Key
128bit hex

last night I changed it to
WPA TKIP-PSK
20 character code.

The network contains the following:
2 desktops, 1 serving printers and a RAID drive, XP home.
1 Laptop, Vista Home Premium.
misc devices not always connected.
The file sharing is using standard windows settings.

The issue I am having is the laptop is taking much longer to copy and access files from the server than it did prior to my changing the security type. I changed it to make my life easier when adding devices. I hated having to look at the router page for every new device. I would appreciate any advice that can be had. I am really contemplating replacing the router with a nice new D-Link N class router... The laptop has an N card in it and the extra speed would be great.

On quite different equipment than what you are using, I have seen a speed slowdown when using equipment of very different generations. You have a new card and an older router. It is probably an incompatibility with how they implement WPA. Sometimes they don't work at all. Get a new router.

I have a feeling it has to do with the old router VS the new laptop with Vista. I turned off the IPV4 option in the wireless card settings and it seemed to help a little. I think i'm just going to go back to WEP and see about upgrading to an N router. At least that way the laptop will have good speed.

Thanks.
