Spyware

The ISP's seem to want our machines to be pwned. If you call customer service at RR, the first thing they do is insist that you hook up a machine running Windows, directly to the modem, with the firewall shut off. I wonder how many people get things running in this suicidal configuration and then just leave it like that? I monitor my connection, and I see random attacks about 3-5 times/minute. Chances are pretty good that you wouldn't make it out of one of those customer service calls without getting pwned. The few times I've had to do it, I loaded a fresh copy of Windows, did the updates from behind a firewall, did the customer service call, and then wiped the machine.
