It is a sytem status scanner

It is nothing but a scanner that detects if you have anti-spyware, anti-virus, and a firewall turned on or not from any vendor. Use or not, it is free and available here:

By the way, it doesn't BLOCK anything. It is just a mediocre system status scanner only.

If you want PROTECTION, you must install a separate software pkg called "Verizon Internet Security Suite".

This is where you PAY for the separate anti-virus software:

Finally.. something you said that I agree with

Additionally, you cannot place your trust in any one security product, they all (every single one of them, without fail) have different deficiencies, usually its the cat and mouse or whackamole game they play with malicious code writers. There is always a time delay between when a piece of malicious code is released, and when AV/Spyware updates are released. That could range from a few hours, to a few weeks, and lets not even talk about the turn around time on MS patching.

Your best bet is to layer your security, and not rely on one single product vender, but rather multiple venders. An example, a year or so ago, there was a vuln in the way symantec products, ALL of them, every single one of them, processed IP traffic. The end result (although it was patched somewhat quickly), was that a malicious entity could bypass all security measures in place without detection.

Use 1 product for AV, another for firewall, another for spyware etc, and don't just pick the cheapest product, and for god sake.. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY VENDER TRYING TO PUSH THEIR OWN PRODUCT, they are only interested in their own products, and will push them over others, regardless of how sucky they are (oh, and never touch any AV from Computer Associates, their etrust product is a load of shit). You need to go via third party, non financially attached reviews (consumer reports for example), or trial products. Obviously my mentality comes from being a security eng in a corp/gov environment, but the principal is the same.

I could go on.. but I suspect most have not even read this far

for $60/year you [do not] get

- 3 PC only
- no 64bit
- no Windows 2003

to bad my household has 2 PC's, 1 Media station and 2 laptops all running Vista Ultimate 64. Sucks to be a 'normal' user nowadays.

No FireFox ?.. There's a major security hole right there !

Verizon is nothing more than a Pipe for me.
Everything else they offer, sell is a joke.

If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.
