Post up your modem stats from here: »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm. You can usually get a rough idea from that. The CO locator is only a direct as the crow flies distance, and has nothing to do with the length of the line that goes to your house.

Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 3354 861
Margin (dB) 31.0 8.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 21.0 8.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 15.3 12.3

the thing about my area is that it is pretty much a straight line. I live on a highway that is like perfectly straight for miles. here is a map of the road i live on

»maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&g···=13&om=1

i dont live right where that green marker is, but probably not even 1 mile to the right of it on that straight stretch, i have no idea where the CO is, but i think it is actually somewhere near that marker.

Yup, looking at it, I'd say right about a mile or so. It also may not be the CO you are connected to, but an RT. The CO should be pretty hard to miss, as it's an actual physical building. An RT on the other hand could be nothing more than a very large box or even an underground vault.

in that case.. there most not be a CO i am connected to cus i live in a VERY rural area on that main road... like the back of my hand very view houses and just a high school. there were no buildings added or anything. there is howerver about 1 mile from my house near where that green dot is .. there are HUGE electric boxes on the ground that i see verizon at .. but they have been there since i was born. what is the differnce of a RT and a CO

The CO is the Central Office. It's where all local service terminates. A Remote Terminal is like a mini automated CO. They can run fiber to the RT and then copper from there to you to extend the range of DSL for a particular CO.

would that affect my distance or if i am on a RT then my distance is only effected or counted from the RT to my house. If i am only about a mile from the RT. with those stats posted would fastpath be a good thing for me to gain better latency without losing speed. because i wanted to switch to fastpath b/c i do some online gaming and my pings are now higher then what they were on cable

Right, distance would then be measured from the RT. As for Fastpath, you should be ok. Your stats are good for the most part, but I would expect the US Margin to be higher than what it is. I'd try to get that up to at least 10 just to be certtain and avoid any potential problems. It could be something as simple as rebooting the modem, but if you have an NID, I'd try pulling the stats with the modem connected there. If there is no change, it's on the line outside the house and nothing you can do to change it. If they do improve, then you'll need to take a look at your jacks and wiring for anything that may be loose, cut, or corroded and make sure none of the filters, phones, etc. connected to any jack are faulty.
