Which speed tier is it?

So is it 7/1 or 7/768?

The article above on DSLR says 7/1

For Verizons sake..It better be 7/1 ..as 7/768 is useless..wow a couple more mbps down..the added upload would be nice..

Would the download speed be a 133% increase? That is a big increase.
It would be a 4mbs increase not a 2mbs increase.

If memory serves my 7100/768 was provisioned at 8100something 864. In speed tests provisioned interleaved I got around 6400kbps down and 710 up. On fast path I got 6700 down and 750ish up.

Unless Verizon keeps the price low, it still won't compete with cable all things being equal (in terms of AUP and uptime etc). Basic cable plans are running in that 6-7Mb range in a lot of areas now-a-days.

Doing the currently $30ish plan for 3Mb and $41-$45 for 7Mb would do pretty good against faster cable competitors. If we've learned anything from the cable vs DSL war it's nothing gets more subscribers than a dirt cheap price.

With how you say cheap prices, why not lower the 3/768 to 25 and put the 7/1 to 30 or 35? Still cheaper then most cables.

I generally agree.
While 10/1Mbps is a nice to have, MANY do not have the need for much more than 3Mbps, and plenty don't care if they have more than 1.5Mbps. Higher prices are what typically ticks people off. What many don't see/consider is that there's typically an expensive POTS line subsidizing the DSL.

I have no issues with a $24.95 DSL line on AT&T. paying $44/month (+tax/fees) for POTS is pricey though. I'd be at $36/month for 6Mbps/768kbps on DSL, however, those packages are not available here.

Likely because the Verizon suits would say they don't have to in order to compete. But I agree with you, I think they would get tons of subscriber adds from that just like they did from the $15 768 tier.

I agree with both of you about competing with Cable but what is the distance limitations for this speed? it would have to be very close to the CO or the RT.

Do not quote me here, but I seem to remember it previously being in the 5000 ft. range. Given ADSL2+ deployment and the distances it's extended other speeds, I'd guess 7000-8000 likely and possibly as high as 10,000 in some cases.

Which is why I said don't quote me, lol. How long ago? Mind posting your modem stats for me?

This was about March 2006. I've since switched to cable so I don't have current provisioning.
