Re: [Free] Vista Ultimate or Office directly from Microsoft.

Just installed it on my old notebook that is just mainly used for web surfing. If the software install screws things up I'll just do a system restore. Free Vista Ultimate...worth a try. What have I got to lose?

How do you select what you want ?

I filled out the surveys and stuff and never got asked what I want.

Im doing it twice , wifes pc and my laptop. Can use a couple Vista licenses.

did you check off both checkboxes?
Selecting the "gift" that was one of the first steps for me.

Ah crap, I only signed up for the survey. Just filled out the first part, too! Thanks for the tip, though.

I signed up for both and they never asked what I wanted twice now on 2 seperate email addresses. I feel slighted here.

yeah, that's weak...I had to choose the gift from a dropdown before I started the survey.

I never saw the option to get software either.

I'll have to try it again.

Did you guys choose your software before or after they gave the confirmation email?

I tried with another email account and I still don't see the option.

By the way. The software(wfp) can be removed through add/remove in control panel.

Well, it took me 10 min to answer their questionnaire, and I installed it on a machine I use about once a week.

15 min of work to get potentially $400 worth of software.

I'll roll the dice...

Microsoft expects us to trust them so you'd think they'd return the favor and provide a link to a Vista Ultimate ISO and Product Key at the start of participation in this program.
What about those of us who only have CDRom RW and only read DVD? I thought it said they would mail a copy of the DVD to us. Of course, if Microsoft doesn't like me putting it on a virtual machine...well...but it didn't say I couldn't do that and I use the virtual machine a lot.

I don't recall it saying I have to reboot every day? That doesn't make sense. I never shut down my computers. They are on (not hibernated) 24/7 so why would I need to reboot for MS to gather information? Obviously, if you are one of the persons who thinks shutting down every night lengthens the life of your computer...you'd have to boot it each day...but most folks never shut down so I don't see why this little gizmo can't just send info whenever it wants to?

As for getting the email, I got it instantly before I could even open that Identity. I just used the email address that Microsoft has for me for Passport, beta testing, etc.

According the FAQ, the info is gathered and sent at the beginning of each logon, not at the end as someone else stated. And, I don't see in the FAQ at least mention of the requirement to turn the computer on at least once per day.

Can anyone confirm that the computer must be run once a day?
That made no sense to me because I don't login in as there is only my account with no password. I am always logged in 24/7 on the host and usually I have the virtual machines running 24/7 and always logged in on them. If this means I have to reboot every 24 hours that is going to be a major hassle. I never reboot unless I have a problem and am forced to do so. It takes too long to reload 50 tabs on Firefox and reboot the virtual computers... etc.

I don't understand why this gizmo can't just gather information whenever it wants. Why in the world would it be designed to gather info only after rebooting? That is absurd.

Oops...almost 2PM ....time to go enter MS chat.

Re: [Free] Vista Ultimate or Office directly from Microsoft.

GOD DAMN MOTHER FU*************** AFTER 10 Minutes of damn survey!

We're sorry, this survey cannot be found.

This means that the link you clicked, or the URL you typed into your browser, didn't work for some reason. Here are some possible reasons why:

1.

You may have typed the survey link incorrectly.
2.

The link you received in your email may have been broken across two lines.

What you can do:

* Verify that the entire link to the survey appears in your browser's address/location field.
* If the link you received in your email was broken across two lines, copy the first and second parts of the URL link, and place them together into your browser's address/location field as a single line.
