No, that's not it. The ones that were available for download were for use in the regular single (not slim or double) DVD cases.

Yep when you want a slim dvd cover you need to custom resize the cover yourself or have it done for you. I guess that may be why although there were many of these cover art images floating around the net. Some may have been slightly different and hard to line up in the case properly once printed and cut.

I pay $45.00 per month for 8/512. I sort of keep my mouth shut regarding the stifling cap. I'm not a downloader or a gamer. I chafe at the neck when I read of braggards and their monthly download amounts. It's not that I'm jealous, it's that I cannot convince my ISP to give us a workable limit like 25-50 GB. I can live within that.

I do like streaming, though. I mean it's part of the reason for having a fast connection. I only stream certain things....Aces hockey away games on B2 Networks, CBS's The Young and the Restless, CBS's Survivor, Youtube, etc. In nine years with this ISP, I've only gone over my limit once. I don't worry so much about the cap when the hockey season is over. I do worry when I've updated 7 Vista & XP computers to their respective service packs and there's still 10 days left in the month and I'm already at 8 GB.

The site keeps bugging me to update my review. In time I will. I just need to come up with a scathing, yet succinct and intelligent way to get my point across without coming across as a raving lunatic. My ISP does read my reviews, they've sent me emails every time I've updated it.

Anyway....this is off topic and more appropriate for Rants and Raves. :)

I haven't tried it on my secondary Vista machine yet. I'm a world-class procrastinator. :o :D I'll probably do that machine this weekend.

Also, because my ISP, MTA Online, caps my connection at 10 GB per month, I have to plan these things as not to go over the cap for the month. It's $15.00 per GB if I go over those caps and having updated 5 XP machines to SP3 in additional to normal everyday surfing and streaming, I'm pretty much limited in what remains in the month of May as to what I can do with my internet connection.

I can't make back up copies of the two Vista DVD's as my DVD drive is read only. I can burn only on the CDRom drive. :( That's because when Dell replaced my Dimension 8300, which died under warranty, I had a read only DVD drive on it so Dell just put the same type of DVD drive on the XPS 600 and I have not replaced it. This is actually the first time, since I got the XPS 600 a little over 2 years ago, that I have really wished I had DVD burning capabilities.

[EDIT] Here's my original backup DVD made from my Ultimate OEM DVD (non-SP1). I used a printable DVD rather than a label on both discs. The first thing I do with any new Windows CD/DVD is to make a backup copy and put the original in a safe place. :-)

I am sure its a mistake on their part, but there really is nothing wrong with taking advantage of it imho.

Only other time this has happened to me is when i ordered break rotors for my car. Instead of sending me a set they sent me two sets. I felt guilty and called them, but they said it was their mistake and to keep them. I used the 64 bit disc to load 2 of my HP computers using the HP supplied key. One came with 64 bit the other with 32 bit. I had to call to activate both but was no problem. Well, this is retail Ultimate. I mean, the other Eulas, such as OEM, do not fit as the disks are not OEM disks. I looked at E:\sources\license\_default where there are three folders, (a) default, (b) eval, and (c) OEM. It's pretty simple... 1 valid product key is good for one activated Vista Ultimate install. 2 valid product keys are good for 2 Vista Ultimate installs, either on the same PC (dual-boot) or on 2 different PC's. You can install 2-32 bit versions, 2-64-bit versions or one of each with the 2 product keys. What you cannot do is use the same product key for 2 different installations... it will only activate on one anyway.

Right. Its a very interesting issue because the product license isn't clear. We don't even have a certificate of authenticity. Just two offical Microsoft DVDs in separate CD sleeves, with separate keys.

My retail box copy of Vista Ultimate has one key and two DVDs.

Now, if they "mistakenly" shipped us this second product key, we are legally entitled to keep it as a free gift.

Yes, the AMD Turion 64 X2 will easily run it. It does not take much more "horse-power" at all to run ultimate 64 versus 32. Yes, although it should run most 32 bit stuff fine, there always may be the occasional "glitch"...IMHO, unless you have software that requires a 64 bit OS, I would not necessarily rush it.

Assuming since you have a turion CPU, you are running a notebook...likely you have a 4gb ram max? If so, you really will not get much if any advantage memory usage wise running Ultimate 64bit, because although Vista 32 bit can only use up to 3.5gb...the extra over-head in the 64 bit version will leave you with the same, or less total usable ram anyways! 64bit version really begins to shine when you can load up 8gb plus ram, but 4gb poses no real advantage there.

I have no plans to convert perfectly running XP systems (5 of them) to Vista. I plan on converting one perfectly running 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 32 bit Vista Ultimate and one perfectly running 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64 bit Vista Ultimate. I just need the time to do it.

I'm more interested in checking out Office Ultimate 2007. It's been a long time since I've had a full-tilt Office product on any of my home computers. I run Office XP Standard on my everyday use XP machine and Home & Student on one of my Vista machines. I do have Office 2000 Professional on a CD somewhere and it was way more Office than I really needed for home use.

Well here's my experience w/ Vista Ultimate 64bit on a AMD Turion 64 X2, that's what I have..........I installed Vista Ultimate 64bit, but, after I did, my MX6453 took a huge performace hit..here's what happened, in 32bit I get a Vista WEI score of no more than a 3.0 to 3.5. but in 64bit I only get a WEI score of 1.0 to 2.0, no matter if I have the lastest ATI Video/chipset drivers or Vista SP1 installed, also, 64bit WAS SLOW on my notebook, 32bit was a lot faster, so rather than to waste any more time on this, I re-installed my Vista Ultimate 32bit backup, but , before I could even do that, I had to DELETE the 64bit partition in order to restore it back to 32bit Vista .........

At this point I'm going to keep the 64bit Vista and save it for a more newer desktop (that can really handle 64bit and do it justice) I really didn't see any difference perfromace wise between 32bit and 64bit....... it worked, just not very well to me.......at least NOT on this notebook it didn't.

To the OP that posted this thread....go ahead and install Vista 64bit (if that's what you have) but remember...individual results w/ Vista 64bit may vary, and all systems ARE NOT created equal........

I'm not sure if you intended to reply to me, and my experience with Vista is limited.

But my guess is that, yes, it will run on that machine, depending of course on your other specs (exactly what version of the AMD Turion 64 X2 processor you have, memory, video, in particular), and if you really feel the need to run the 64 bit version depending on the programs you have.

Poke around here for minimum system requirements, keeping in mind that Microsoft's idea of "minimum" requirements are generally quite different than what is really required to take full advantage of the Vista "experience".

When they say "minimum", believe me, they mean *minimum*...usually an understatement, to say the least.

Also, as suggested above by howie, run the Vista upgrade advisor as well, to get a general idea of what the prospects are. (I think this is a very good idea for anyone who has never installed Vista before..that's what it's there for).

If the disc is warped or melformed out of the mold then the disc will not spin correctly.

Obviously if other discs do not make a racket as you say then odds are you have a bad disc.

Call MS up and tell them you want a replacement.

It was mailed from West Virginia. It depends on the routing and the planes it gets on to determine how quickly or slowly it gets to its destination. Maybe you live in an area where it will take an extra day...anyone on the Big Island outside of Hilo or Kailua-Kona would probably wait an extra day for theirs. My letter, like everyone's, said by May 2 which is today so if I hadn't gotten it by May 3 mail, I'd write MS.

Plus if you don't use the 9 digit zip it may take longer.

The return address was from WV.

Check your last email, mine said...

"Please allow a few days for arrival. If you have not received your free product by May 2nd, 2008, please send an email to this address indicating "product not arrived" in the subject line."

I'm sure others had a different date but you need the patience and contact MS if it hasn't arrived by the date they state.
