Now available in select NW Atlanta areas

I was just messing around and put in my old address to check for availability since I knew ATT was working in that area on getting Uverse going.
It seems that they are now taking orders in Alpharetta.

Too bad I won't see it here where I moved to for some time.

Anyway just a heads up to anyone in the NW burbs of Atlanta that may be interested in ordering.

Interesting... Hopefully U-Verse will be available in Kennesaw soon.

I checked mine in Lawrenceville and it did not come up. I have been an Americast Bellsouth customer for years and was hoping we would get it first

AT&T has been working up here on Black-jack MT (Barnesmill Rd & Barnesmill Trac) every day for the past week testing lines and the VRAD. In talking to them it should be on line in some time Jan. -Feb time frame

Alpharetta resident here (more specifically, the new city of John's Creek). An ATT sales rep came up to our door a week ago and told us we were eligible for the service, told us the details, what it was, the equipment we'd get, etc. It was the first time I had heard of the Uverse service at all. I had heard of Verizon's FIOS though, so I understood that it was a complete framework overhaul. The sales rep didn't really make it sound like an optional service, and it sounded more like a mandatory upgrade. He did make it clear we could go back to the DSL if we wanted to however.

They installed it today while my dad was working from home. So far it seems to be working alright. They were able to add the DVR to our existing home theater setup so that we didn't have to haul the heavy entertainment center away from the wall to rewire everything, which was a major plus. I was able to setup the remote to control the TV, VCR, and DVD player, though it wasn't compatible with our amplifier so we still have to use a separate remote for volume control, which isn't too big of a deal. My mom is slightly put off that only the one TV has access to the DVR (the TV she doesn't use of course), but I understand that this is a planned upgrade for late 2008.

The Internet connection seems to be working okay, though I haven't messed around with it too much. I did a quick speed test and found that the download speed had decreased slightly from the full 3 Mbps on our old DSL line to around 2.7 with Uverse. Both the DSL and Uverse plans are 3 Mbps downlink.

All in all, from what little time I've spent with the whole thing, I'm rather pleased with the whole thing. My only complaint involves the RG itself. It had to be near a cable hookup, and the desk in my room was the only viable location upstairs to place it. The wireless signals it transmits create noise from my subwoofer which is located 1-2 feet away. Nothing a sheet or two of aluminum foil can't fix, but it's annoying nonetheless.

That is strange that you tested out on ADSL right at 3 even with the PPPoE overhead and lower on U-verse which doesn't have that overhead. One of the many mysteries that happens with AT&T I guess...

If he is in Alpharetta, GA (an Atlanta area suburb) than he had at&t (formerly BellSouth) FastAccess DSL which uses MaxSync. BellSouth used to (and at&t still does in former BellSouth areas) over-provision the speeds at which the modems sync to account for PPPoE overhead - they call this MaxSync.

For example, my modem syncs at 8128/508 and I receive ~6.5 Mbps/420Kbps speeds on most speed tests I do; I have the 6 Mbps/512 plan from BellSouth/at&t.

The following FAQ article goes into more detail regarding MaxSync: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »What is MaxSync Profile?
