Re: MAC Address and IPs

It definitely worked at another house with someone with a Westel.
Most likely because the router restarted itself and/or the connection after the clone. The clone didn't do it, just the act of disconnecting and reconnecting.

They really should take the DSL Modem with a power cord outside to see if there is DSL Sync at the NID test jack. While bad modems right out of the box do happen from time to time, it is pretty rare.

I'd agree, but we'll have to follow the path that AT&T is leading us on, for now.

It's an apartment complex, I don't think she'll have access to wherever the NID is. She did say that AT&T was on site (not in the apartment) on 2 different ocassions.

FWIW She will probably not have a NID in an apartment however there may be a inside network interface (INI) the most common locations for one in an apartment are in the kitchen, near the electrical panel or a common wall with another unit.

An INI looks like a standard wall jack with one or two jack cords on the bottom. If it is not marked as to which line is which normally line one is on the right. To test unplug the jackcord and insert the modem line cord into the jack on the bottom of the INI and see if she gets sync.
»AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the INI.

For anyone still here, she gave up. They were out another time or two....lot of time spent on the phone as well.

Big mess. AT&T couldn't figure it out and she canceled the order and sent the modems back.

She has a ticket in with AT&T and a new modem is on the way. DSL light off, looks like maybe it is a bad modem them.

Still have that question regarding changing IP via MAC cloning. Can anyone confirm one way or another? It definitely worked at another house with someone with a Westel.
The MAC address has nothing to do with it. If you do not have a static IP then all you need to do is disconnect the PPPoE and reconnect.

Did she ever check stats at the NID?
