Re: MAC Address and IPs

Yes, 2 separate questions, I know.

I think I understand the IP changing now. Reboot modem, new IP.

Ticket open with AT&T, new modem on the way, if that doesn't fix it, I'm sure they'll know what to do next. I'm almost sure it's nothing from the modem on in at this point.

They really should take the DSL Modem with a power cord outside to see if there is DSL Sync at the NID test jack. While bad modems right out of the box do happen from time to time, it is pretty rare.

I'd agree, but we'll have to follow the path that AT&T is leading us on, for now.

It's an apartment complex, I don't think she'll have access to wherever the NID is. She did say that AT&T was on site (not in the apartment) on 2 different ocassions.

FWIW She will probably not have a NID in an apartment however there may be a inside network interface (INI) the most common locations for one in an apartment are in the kitchen, near the electrical panel or a common wall with another unit.

An INI looks like a standard wall jack with one or two jack cords on the bottom. If it is not marked as to which line is which normally line one is on the right. To test unplug the jackcord and insert the modem line cord into the jack on the bottom of the INI and see if she gets sync.
»AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the INI.
