EDIT: To elaborate a little more... Cox was pretty unreliable at first. However, they recently completed the 1ghz upgrade in my area, and reliability has been great lately. The things that turn me off about Cox are the monthly bandwidth caps and recent BitTorrent throttling. Both services have advantages and disadvantages...I do want to get some first hand experience with the UVERSE FTTP product, though, to form a more informed opinion. |

| reply to MarkyD The only reason I'd want to switch form my current PseudoDSL Elite would be to get the full 6mb instead of 5mb. But there is no way I'd give up DirecTV until AT&T has atleast 2 HD streams, whole house DVR and over a lot more HD channels then they currently have.
My contract with DirecTV is up in March 2009 so who knows, maybe by then AT&T will have their act together.
Still, keep me abreast of how you like it. |

| reply to MarkyD install going on now... Got RG hooked up. Broadband light came on immediately, but the service light is blinking. He's waiting to talk to tier 2. Apparently I'm the first FTTP UVERSE install in all of the OKC Metro...it's not being marketed yet, they just did a "soft launch." Anyway, updates to follow. We're doing a pure cat5 install. -- MCSE, ACSA, and a lot more |

MarkyD Premium join:2002-08-20 Oklahoma City, OK clubs: | reply to MarkyD so apparently Oklahoma did not exist in the AT&T FTTP UVERSE system. So, I guess the people back at the office are building it in currently while the techs here are finishing the wiring. -- MCSE, ACSA, and a lot more |

| reply to MarkyD lol. Well. I've had two GREAT techs here pretty much all day. One tech is a member of DSLR, but I won't mention his handle. Anyway, the wiring and STBs/RT have been in place for about 4 hours now...but they've been on and off the phone with marketing/tier2/NOC ever since. The Broadband light goes solid, but the "service" light just blinks.
So, 10am-6pm and the install is still not done. Not the fault of the techs (who have been nothing but professional and top notch.)
Apparently, AT&T didn't have Oklahoma FTTP customers on the UVERSE system at all. Oklahoma just "doesn't exist" according to what they said. They've been working on getting it added in and provisioning/re provisioning the circuit multiple times now. Still nothing.
I guess this is what I get for being the first UVERSE FTTP customer in Oklahoma. -- MCSE, ACSA, and a lot more |

EDIT: After they get this turned up I'll be on the IP network. I'm typing this from my Cox connection. |

| reply to MarkyD ok, update. they left finally at 7:20pm. However, nothing is yet working. Again, no fault on the techs. Apparently the RG is not getting an IP from the CO. They tried multiple RGs with no success. Unfortunately, my CO is unmanned and there was no one available to go check out the CO and see what's wrong. They said there seems to be a problem with the 7340, whatever that is. The techs were extremely apologetic. I could tell they were frustrated. I can't blame them, being here for 9 hours with no success! I'm a little frustrated too, but not angry. I just wish AT&T would plan ahead before turning a neighborhood "green." I am supposed to get a call tomorrow morning when they find the problem, and then they'll roll another tech. I took today off work for this install, and I can't take another day...so my wife is going to stay home with the tech. -- MCSE, ACSA, and a lot more |

1 edit | The Alcatel 7340 ISAM is what they were probably referring to...Kind of like the FTTP version of a DSLAM for us FTTN folks I think. Here is a document on the 7342 (upgrade of the 7340, but similar): »www3.cygategroup.com/upload/Swed···1635.pdf
From what I understand, the 7340 uses BPON and the 7342 uses GPON. The 7330 is what AT&T is using for their FTTN service.
»www.home.alcatel.com/vpr/fullarc···102004uk "To drive fiber deeper into the SBC network, Alcatel will provide SBC with its remote 7330 IP DSLAM solution, which is capable of supporting wire speed triple play services and multiple variations of DSL for SBC's Fiber to the Neighborhood architecture. In addition, Alcatel provides its 7340 Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) solutions."
Your broadband light will always be solid green as long as your ONT is powered up and your RG has a connection to it. Your service light is what you will be concerned with. |

| reply to MarkyD thanks for the info - that was very informative! I guess there is a misconfiguration on the 7340 in the CO, and it was not ready to go live. Kind of strange that they'd make FTTP areas "green" if it was not actually ready, but...I digress. I'm just impatient -- MCSE, ACSA, and a lot more |
