[Software] ATT Yahoo Online Protection w/Norton

Since ATT/Yahoo got their YOP switched over to Norton from CA, I gave it a try, unloading my SAV 10.1/ZoneAlarm package (short stint on WLOC) and every two or three days, the YOP dashboard reports AS/AV/FW as 'not installed' (needing reinstall) or turned off,(needing reactivation).
Last night I striped everything Yahoo/Symantec and reloaded ZAas and SAV 10.1.
has anyone else had similar experiences?

The new online protection called YOP 2.5 have lot of problem. There were about 800K downloaded and >1% reported problems. So that y you don't hear any advertisement about it. For your issue, you need to call at&t tier 2 and expect at least 1 hr on the phone. Good luck.

Basically, if you have less than 170 MB of available physical memory - the chances of the Norton YOP isntalling error free drop dramatically.

Need at least 512MB of RAM to get a decent install. And if you happen to try the uninstall and reinstall - be sure to run the Norton Removal Tool before each install attempt.

Also - we have found spyware scanners like spybot and adware can potentially corrupt the install of YOP - so need to remove those before install and then you can reinstall after. But basically - its a mess .

I have never considered using the ISP offered protective services. Alwil Avast or Grisoft AVG are good enough for me. If I feel the need to pay, I'll buy Kaspersky.

YOP used Computer Associates AV, and last month it wasn't updating, so I reloaded the YOP. To my surprise it was Norton instead of CA. CA was fast and un-obtrusive. Norton has been nothing but a pain. It is very slow and every other time I turn on my PC, I have to re-boot. Yesterday I noticed that Norton said AV was OFF, while the YOP said AV was ON ???? I called Tier 1 and was told is is a Norton problem. I demanded Tier 2 and they told me I had to uninstall and reinstall. But I couldn't re-install until January because of un-specific "license issues". I found some company announcements on the 'net today that the Yahoo-Symantec partnership offers the NAV "free" for 30 days. Then it costs $50/yr.

Way to go AT&T Yahoo!!!! Take something that works great and screw it up. No way am I going to pay $50/yr for this piece of junk.

I bought Norton years back, it was nothing but a resource hog and a real problem.
Don't use Norton, use anything else, you'll be much happier.

While I agree with your assessment of the quality and desirability of this piece of software, I don't believe this is a 30 day trial. I installed it on a test machine on 10/16 and it's still working and downloading updates.

Its not a 30-day trial. Its free to AT&T customers as long as you stay an AT&T customer.

However, it was pulled off the download site few days ago for XP users only due to all the issues associated with installing on XP. Also when it comes back up in mid-January, it will require minimum of 512MB of RAM.
