Yes, I use Tomato as well to track my bandwidth. But I do notice some differences in tracking from Tomato compared to Rogers, mainly due to upload portion. For example, Tomato would report 0.5GB while Rogers would only report 0.3GB. And over the course of the month, the Tomato bandwidth would over-estimate my bandwidth usage compared to Roger's Bandwidth tracker. But it's still a good indicator when Roger's bandwidth tracker screws up.
I think the difference in reporting from Tomato and Rogers has to do with the network. For example, Tomato tracks everything that is leaving your IP including connections within Rogers' network. While I think Rogers' bandwidth tracker only track what leaves their network. What do you guys think?
Nope. Rogers tracks everything through your modem. They *may* be subtracting an allowance for things you can't help.
Yes they do substract an allowance for internal traffic...That they have no choice about..... Usually things like ARP packets and any number of other bits and bytes that could possibly get added into your monthly total.... All providers do this as standard practice....If they didn't you could easily loose 20 GIGs or more a month of your cap depending on the type of network......
And as a quick side note Cellular providers to them same thing with certain types of traffic with PDA and non PDA based devices.....(and yes rogers is included in that) -- common sense isn't so common....is it?
