[Speed] new speed - KY

Mod note: [SPLIT] from older topic: »[Speed] new speed

I am in Florence, KY and got the same flyer a week ago. I called them up, expecting to get a "we are rolling that out at the first of the year" since the flyer said "coming soon". The rep said "well, Mr. Sullivan, that's available to you right now". 50 bucks a month for 20 megs down and 1.5 megs up. I can handle that. Signed up and the speeds are just ridiculously fast. I downloaded a full 5.3 meg mp3 as a test (as speedtests are great for benchmarking, but i like to test based on real world application as well). The file was complete before my not-too-shabby computer even loaded the download dialog. Yeah....I'm happy.

I have yet to inquire if this is in fact available in my area. At a fifty dollar price point that would be more speed than I'm getting now for a lot less money. With the Comcast changeover coming supposedly at the first of the year. It would interesting to know if the 20.0 package is available - would customers be able to keep these speeds and pricing after the changing of the guard. I'm currently a plus package customer.

So it was only $10 more to double your speed to 20mbit? If that's the case I might have to consider pushing for our household to try it out.

You gotta love Insight....charging $50 in some areas for 20/1.5 and charging $80 for 15/1.5 in other areas. Unfortunately, I'm in the $80 area.

Which brings me back to what I asked above. Has anyone here in the forum called in regards to other areas? Did other regions not get the email or snail mail alert do to the fact that they will be switching over to Comcast in the near future? Of course we could just be back to what we saw in the past with Insight. Some areas getting more for less money. Many of us have been down this road before. Like you I'd prefer to get more and pay less. It would be nice if they would have added a bit on the upload side for the 20.0 package. It would be more enticing at 20000/2000.

I just called Insight to inquire about the 20/1.5 for $50. I was told that since my area [Springfield IL] is going to Comcast in 3 weeks no upgrade to 20/1.5 here or lowering of the current price for 15/1.5....in other words, Insight is going to keep raping us as long as they can.

Is that price tier for 20.0 a definite $10 more? I got the mail too regarding it (as well as other insight offers), but the price is not mentioned, nor when it will be rolled out locally.

How much more are they charging you, and do you know if it is available throughout Louisville?

10$ more a month. I dunno if its available throughout Louisville because he said that something told him it wasn't available for me to have it but he said he wasn't going to take it off. He said its only available to certain customers. I didn't even call in to get it. I called in to make sure something was taken off my bill and he offered it to me.

For double the speed for another $10 a month, I decided it was worth a try so I called customer service.

Customer service said the increase wasn't available in my area in Louisville. I'm in the 40219 zip code, near Shepherdsville Road and Fern Valley Road. She did say it may be available in the future, but she didn't know when. She also said that if it did become available it would probably be for $10 per month more.

If I were getting the full 10 Mb/s that I'm paying for, I wouldn't need more speed. But at peak times I often get less than half the advertised speed. So if I could double my actual bandwidth for another $10 per month, it would be worth it to me.

Well hopefully u can try it out soon. My speed tests also at 10 meg showed around 5 to 8 meg normally but I decided to try the 20 meg and my speed tests now show over 20 meg as u can see above. So I'm wondering if my provisioning packet at 10 meg was corrupted or something.

The package is available for an additional $20 a month. If you are getting the BB product (20/1.5) for $50 a month it is because your service is already being discounted by bundle pricing.

I don't see any benefit in it.

Eventually Insight will raise their basic speeds, like in the past.
