FAP meter broken yet again?

Once again the fap meter is adding way too much and not taking it off.
Once again the use is just going up and up.
This is getting old.
AND NO... no viruses, spyware, unsecure wireless or any of the other excuses they TRY to use to put the blame on the customer.
It's bad enough we have to deal with this rolling FAP crap. But just unacceptable that it miscalculates your use.
It works, then it doesn't and WB is no help at all. They NEVER admit ANY MISTAKE on their end. They never apologize for screwing up.
THIS COMPANY SUCKS!
WILDBLUE- FIX IT!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Are you using Fapzilla to regularly record your FAP meter?

There are a few more people complaining about recent wacky FAP readings in FAP Upload Meter Gone Crazy?.

Based on a quick review of my raw data, my FAP meter seems to be reading okay, but I need to plot the data to be certain.

No.......not running fapzilla

But I DO watch my use.

And NO WAY have I used 5 gig more than my "usual" amount in the 2 weeks this has gone on.

All the sudden........It's adding too much........and not taking off.

THIS IS JUST A RIP OFF!

It just keeps going!

I PAY GOOD MONEY for a certain amount of service & DO NOT LIKE getting RIPPED OFF!

WB tech support is nothing but WORTHLESS & LAME excuses. Nothing but meaningless lip sewrvice AT BEST!

The issue is ON THEIR END!
No doubt about that.

But they refuse to ADMIT THE MISTAKE or do anything about it.

AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED...........they can resolve it by TUESDAY or I will "CANCEL MY CARD" they charge........and PAY HUGHES for a new dish & their services.

AT least they keep track of your use CORRECTLY.

WILDBLUE SUCKS!

BEWARE!

DO NOT BUY WILDBLUE!

Post some FAP meter shots along with some good data regarding your usage. I think there are many here who can help and will...

There are no major discrepancies between my actual usage as reported by netstat and my WB FAP meter. As usual WB overreports my usage by about 8% during the first part of December but that gap increases to about 11% by the middle of the month. There is speculation that a little over half of this overreporting is due to WB's FAP meter being in units of millions of bytes while my netstat data is in megabytes (1,048,576 bytes).

Information about the graph:

1. Data is collected every 30 minutes.
2. FAPPeriod = 30.81 days (exactly 1430, 30 minute intervals)
3. delay = 30 minutes
4. Actual usage during the flatline on Nov. 30 is ignored.
5. The beginning and end of the flatline is affected by daylight savings time.
A. WB FAP meter stopped subtracting at ~20:30 MST on Nov. 29.
B. WB FAP meter stopped adding at ~02:30 MST on Nov. 30
C. WB FAP meter began subtracting at ~20:30 MST on Nov. 30.
D. WB FAP meter began adding some time after 00:30 MST on Dec. 1, probably between 02:00 and 02:30 MST on Dec. 1 based on data from other flatlines.

6. The discrepancy within 6 hours either side of Dec. 13 GMT is caused by incomplete readings from netstat while my connection repeatedly dropped after 30 s all day long. Every time I refreshed the connection or power cycled the modem and computer, the netstat data was lost. One of the download readings is 21 MB which is likely an error because the value pack can not transfer that much in 30 seconds.

7. The gaps in the red curve are caused by no data being collected from WB's FAP meter when my computer is off. The green curve remains solid because my actual usage is known to be zero at that time.

The more I read on here the more I see my problems fromother people. I have questioned and requestioned the FAP meter. About 2-3 weeks ago my FAP meter about doubled and as I was watching it last week I noted it was flirting with the threshold (7300-7400MB). The Saturday Jan 5th there was a 12+ hour network outage. Sunday morning my wife receives the email about being FAPped and I check the meter. 8000+MB! Easily this is a 500-700MB discrepency and like the author states WB runs down their list of questions pointing to the USER.

I was running an open wireless network BUT with it's max range of 400' the likelihood that it was anyone in my Po-Dunk Back of my Butt Waltonville landscape is slim to none.

Even if someone was actually piggy backing off of us they still would have to overcome our connectivity issues not to mention the 12 plus hour outage that this all occurred!

WB is often so full of BS they don't know when their lies start or end.

I'm not saying this is your situation, but if you are having issues staying connected, be careful about leaving your email program running for long periods of time. If you have a large amount of email that does not download cleanly and get cleared from the mail server, this can repeat over and over and you will be charged multiple times on the FAP for your email. There was a similar problem for single oversize emails that could drive users into FAP in a few hours because it created an almost continuous download state, but supposedly that particular problem has been fixed.

I will take that under advisement because I tend to leave my PC onand my email program running. It's a habit I had when I was on dial up. My connection never timed out. Time to break the habit, thanks for the advise!

WTF? Since 12am my counts have been on the increase and no one is using the PC? I've been using fapzilla to read it but I haven't finished configuring it to read the router.

The best way to insure that there is no unexplained usage is to unplug your WB modem when you are not using it.

Some computer programs, such as operating systems, anti-virus and browsers, automatically update themselves. Whenever possible I disable this feature because I dislike programs that use my Internet without my permission. The usage of Fapzilla will barely register on your FAP meter being less than 2kB every time it takes a reading.

Still though if I see something going on over night off the router I know something actually occurred. That is what I am getting at.

How are you monitoring the usage that your router reports? Do you manually check it? If so what is the discrepancy you see between the usage your router reports vs what your FAP is showing?

Presently I do not have it configured to check the router. I am a little unclear about how to do it correctly. I plan to have that working by the weekend though.

Getting your router stats will depend on the router you have and what it supports. Fapzilla itself doesn't query the router directly. Your router must have SNMP enabled (IF it supports SNMP) and you need to have a package installed that can send an snmpget to the router.

The main reason I ask is because of this:

What I meant was if I see activity during the night whennoone is using the PC(s) and mine is left on that something (maybe a program) is accessing the internet if there is an actual accumulation of MB's

I'm just going to throw this out there because I think this meter is a crock. I know it doesn't work properly but what can I do.. I have to watch the thing. OK so here's the story so you guys understand the data. I'm on the PRO pack and I spend a LOT of time online. I watch a lot of video and so I have to keep track of it or else suffer the wraith of the almighty FAP.

So I started monitoring my FAP meter on the WB Portal so that I could push it to the limit but not over. Oddly enough I wrote the junk down out of curiosity

Going by the premise that the only way to really make the stupid FAP meter go DOWN faster... I think what you will see is that is NOT always the case. I don't know why but look at the data

8:15pm 13,159 Started watching VIDs back to back
9:52pm 13,151 (- 9MB)
10:57pm 13,256 (+105MB)
11,59pm 13,334 (+ 78MB}
1:02am 13,424 (+ 90MB)
2:39am 13,543 (+119MB)
At this point I knew I was getting close so I unplugged the modem and took a break to play around in a game or something
3:27am 13,540 (- 3MB)
OK so the stupid thin went down 3 whole MB in just under an hour.. Great so I unplug the modem again and continue to find something else to do... check this out..
7:38am 13,595 (+ 55MB)
That's right ladies and gents.. the modem was UNPLUGGED from 3:27-7:38am and manged to go UP 55MB.. now you could argue that this was just a timing descrepency from watching the videos and it just taking some time for it to make it onto the meter... but what makes me think that is BS is the fact that it started going DOWN -3MB... so how the hell did it go UP 55MB when the modem was UNPLUGGED? Again I went off to play...
11:13am 13,408
Here is some seriously more ODD crap... remember these vids are about 43MINS each that is not counting the added lil commercials in them where you have to wait 20 seconds to continue.. it really rounds out to about an hour... I know so cuz I have been watching the same thing... just diff episodes all week.So if this stupid meter is supposed to update every 30 mins explain this one!
2:13am 13,408
I suppose you could argue this is a MASSIVE coincidence that its still 13,408...but the fact is that I watched at least one vid that I remember...probably two before I checked this again. If anyone can argue that the meter doesn't work right now... they sure have one complicated explanation to give me!

Oh yeah and also thought I would add this too... I just tried to check the FAP meter a little while ago...again tracking my usage after watching the vids... it worked... then it stopped working... literally it was telling me there is an error and if it keeps happening report it to the webmaster... I'm not talking a web server error I'm talking about where the graph is displayed... so I say... ok so I watch some more vids. After I check again, it works... I'm currently at 13,860 .... Thank you WildBlue... I expect to be FAPed any min.

Shit I pay 80 bucks a month to be treated like a child!

I think most of us feel the FAP meter isn't accurate. Wildblue still has yet to explain to me how during a 12 plus hour network outage on Jan 5th that I downloaded 700MB and thus FAPping me to the wall. Here is the thing. If YOU or I or anyone suspect the meter to be inaccurate in WB's favor they WHY push the envelope with your bandwidth usage?

WB tells me I average 267MB + per day and I tell them there is no way. It can't happen with the connectivity issues I have compiled with network outages and my systems downtime.

Here is what I figure... at my current package of 512kbps (61.91kB/s) which I actually since December have been averaging mid 300's. Giving the benefit of the doubt I'll call it 372kbps or 45kB/s. To download 700MB (716800kB)it would take 15928.89 seconds or 265.481 minutes or 4.425 hours. That being said I would need the constant throughput to sustain the 45kB/s.

How can I say it loud enough? This happened during a network outage? Plain and simple, it didn't happen!

Even if both PC's were busy it would approx 2.25 hours per PC at full stated speed to do that. Even if someone was leaching off my pitiful 400ft range with a good tail wind on the wireless having 3 pc's it would still be almost 1.5 hours each AND we would all have to fight my connectivity issues, system going down, and the 12 hour network outage.

Talking to WB about errant FAP meter readings is like in the movie Yellowbeard where Tommy Chong is playing a Spanish Bishop and he tells Cheech who is playing his underling that he can "bang his head against the floor until forgiven."
