Re: [HN7000S] Hughes is Hijacking our DNS for Invalid URL's We are on hughes.net satellite here at home and at work. Both places if you type in a wrong address, I get a »www.help-not-found-.com etc etc same as the original poster. There are variation to it as well, including 4 w's as in t »wwww. and also »wwwh, and »wwh.
I've opted out many times, and if you clean out your cookies, it comes back so the opt out is never permanent.
If you have any other ISP, you won't get this, as Seagreen does not see this. Only happens on Hughes.net satellite systems. -- Verns didgeridoo info: »vernsdidj.com |

| reply to rocknbil Well, I would like to add my experience.
It doesn't matter if the URL is invalid or not on my system. If a site takes too long to respond, I receive the help-not-found.com garbage.
Thus, I've blocked every variation of the help-not-found.com URL I've seen. |

 | I'm on HughesNet, when I try to access the invalid URL I get this page: »wwh.found-not-help.com/search?qo···LObmugxK |

 | reply to rocknbil Same prob here. I thought it was a yahoo hijack, and even got rid of Yahoo IM, yahoo toolbar, everything. Only to find that Hughesnet charges us $100 a month to do this to us ON PURPOSE.
The stupid "opt-out" thing with the cookies isn't going to cut it. I delete all cookies daily if not more often, due to login problems with myspace. That would mean re-visiting wwwh.found-not-help.com/ over and over, and opting out over and over.
I am NOT a tech guy, I don't know where my hosts file is or how to edit it, if that's even a fix.
I use Opera most of the time, Firefox pretty regularly and IE occasionally (it's the only one that I can login to myspace with).
Isn't there a simple way to redirect any attempts from any and all browsers to access wwwh.found-not-help.com/ right back to google or something?
I found out how to block it to a "404 not found", but that's actually more work that just letting the hijack happen, at least with the hijack, you get some links... |

 | Forgot to ask, is there any way to prevent a cookie from being deleted, even when I run CCleaner, or manually delete the contents of the "Temporory Internet Files" folder?
In other words, find the cookie and make it "undeletable", like some system files are? |

 | reply to rocknbil Thanks for this post! I too am getting this funky url, and I just wrote my host (I build websites for a living) because I was afraid that someone had hacked my box and hijacked my 404 pages. I followed your directions above and opted out, now I get a traditional 404 page with one difference, I big red link that says manage your optin/optout settings.
I just switched to Hughesnet last week, and never had it before then, so they have to be the culprit. Just makes me sad. |

I just switched to Hughesnet last week, and never had it before then, so they have to be the culprit. Just makes me sad. I am using a dial up account with PeoplePC and I get redirects to that site also.... It is not a Hughesnet only thing.
I just entered a junk url and this is the result:
»wwwh.found-not-help.com/search? --
Edit: removed old sig line. |

 | reply to fiaranch Thank you so much for the CCleaner tip, this is working perfectly. it only takes a few seconds every morning to run CCcleaner. I have to run it anyway before each ettemtp to login to myspace anyway and in addition, it fixes the obnoxious Hughenet hijack.
Hughesnet sucks. I never miss an opportunity to tell people this. |

AframePremium join:2008-01-30 Uvalde, TX kudos:1 | hmm.. just now tried this in IE 7.ttjjy.com With proxy turned off I get serval different sites and a popup fron hughesnet tools telling there is a problem. When I turn the proxy on It works correctly. |

 | I get this same Paxfire problem through Cincinnati Bell's Zoomtown "service".
For me the worst thing is that the contents of my address bar are changed when even if I have selected to opt out to the PCBD option. This is extra trouble for my visually impaired wife who now has to try to remember and see what she typed and avoid making the same mistake instead of being able to look at her incorrect entry (which is gone) and correct the typo.
Read up on it, this whold Paxfire thing is for them to make more money while actually hurting customers ability to function.
If anyone has any ideas that will work, such as writing senators, let me know!

 | reply to rocknbil Hello, There is a program to aleviate this, I wrote it. It's simple, just run at logon and no more problem. I have the code and program if anyone is interested, and I'll explain how it works in detail if you wish. I use Hughes services and wrote this in indignation when I first saw the problem. Bill |

KSV @rnetconnection.com | reply to rocknbil I'd like the instructions from Rocknbil on the CCleanup to get around the Hughsnet issue. Thank you! |

 | Has anyone contacted HNS about this? Will they allow a Opt-out that does not install a cookie to your system? I found this the other day when I typed in an incorrect URL. I do not like being forced into looking at paid ads or links or my browser being redirected. Has anyone looked into contacting the BBB or ICANN about this, or are they able to help HNS change their business practices? -- SRS|G4R_1230MHz|ver. 4.2.1.10|Sig Strength: 65|Athlon 2500|WinXP|WiFi Network |

 | reply to rocknbil What is truly annoying is that if you go to »optin.found-not-help.com/ and select "Opt Out: None -- DNS Error Page" it does not actually return a DNS error for your browser to handle, it just redirects you to a mockup of an old Internet Explorer on Windows error page. Of course, since I'm on Mac OS X running Safari, this looks nothing like what I expect. |

 | I am STILL getting that pesky wwwh.found-not-help etc etc search page. I have opted out at the bottom countless times. I have even opted to have it go to Google. Still persists. Isn't there any registry setting that can be invoked to completely over rule this annoying url? I wish someone would get fined heavy for putting up a redirect such as this. -- Verns didgeridoo info: »vernsdidj.com |
