| [HN7000S] Hughes is Hijacking our DNS for Invalid URL's This one takes the cake.
Lately I have discovered a brand new low for Hughes. At first I thought this was a problem with FireFox but at it turns out it was doing the same thing in IE.
I could point you to a slew of articles on this, but it's not necessary. Test it out for yourself.
Any of you Hughes users, type any invalid URL into your address bar. Instead of respecting your browser settings, you will be directed to »wwwh.found-not-help.com
There's a whole list of underhanded business tactics this represents, but judge for yourselves. Looks like Hughes is further abusing the monopoly it seems to have over us for their own special brand of spam.
In order to stop this you must go here:
»optin.found-not-help.com/
And opt out. It only works if your browser supports cookies, and you have to do it in every browser you use, and if you delete the cookies it comes back. So basically you have no way to really opt out.

kudos:1 | I get the same thing. This appears to be what is supposed to happen. However clicking on the second link brings up something that I think is suspicious. Anything that adds cookies I am wary of. |

Are you on satellite? Try some garbage URL, include the http. like »www.sddtgbrgdfgdfgfds.com.
For anyone not on HughesNet, that is what you will get. It's a special treatment *just* for their "valued customers."
EDIT: HA! This morning it's returning the usual "DNS lookup error" for a computer that does not have the cookie set to "opt out." Perhaps they have pulled the DNS hijack in reaction to my complaints. I will keep checking, we have several comps here on a router and I have one with the "cookie set" and another without. |

I certainly meant no disrespect, only that this only occurs on a HughesNet satellite connection.
Here's a screen cap for your reference. Like a phishing email, it LOOKS like a "page not found," but it's not. Notice the broken images and the circled areas - it's in Firefox, returning an IE error, and note the URL. I got this page typing in »www.dfggfg.com.

FWIW, it looks all right in IE7.
Edit: Actually it isn't right in IE7 either (I never use this browser so I didn't know what it *should* look like) What I get in IE7 looks like the first image above but the missing images are there.

It gets even better.
Today attempting to go to godaddy.com:
"you have attempted to establish a connection with godaddy.com. however, the security certificate presented belongs to 'godaddy.tv'."
After which it directs me to »www.godaddy.com/gdshop/404error.asp
Mind you, I've done all the ordinary stuff - deleted cookies, I was **not** typing in https, any and all requests to godaddy.com, from any computer in the house, are all hijacked.
I run adequate AVG software and am not totally unversed in this stuff. During this entire time I have been on G-Talk with my admin who is in another location, using other bandwidth - he doesn't have these problems.

At this point not getting anywhere in IE, same problem, but was able to get in with FireFox. Strange, it is . . . |

| Like your admin, I'm not getting any of that either which leaves two options - your computers or your connection. I checked in both IE7 and FF .11
I'm not on a satellite connection so I can't really check but I don't see a lot of corroboration from other satellite users in this thread so I'd be concerned about your computers if I were you. |
