Vonage outage?

HI,

I am in Pittsburgh, PA and the Vonage service has been out since the evening of Dec 14 2007. Is anyone else in this area experiencing issues? I called tech support after waiting an hour to speak to someone apparently in India, and the issue is not on my end according to the tech.

Thanks,

Frank

Both my lines were down on the 14th, as well. Not sure how long it was out, but it came back up after I powercycled my ATA.

It's been an very long time since I had a real outage like that with Vonage.

I was out and spoke with a rep. As of this morning, I am back up and running with no problems. I was told there was a server down and it was being repaired. They have fixed it. *I would guess) cause I am up and running back to normal.

Re: Vonage outage?

Here is the announcement on the dasboard as of 5:17 AM EST.

``Certain customers may have experienced issues with no dial tone, or feature settings not taking effect. This has now been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and thank you for your patience in this matter."

I am still out here as I type this reply.

There is a service announcement up on the portal ...

"Some customers may be experiencing an issue with no dial tone. Our engineers are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as soon as possible."

As of this morning, no dial tone for me, instead I get a recording "This telephone line cannot register to the Vonage network."

I am unaware how long this problem has been going on.

I haven't tried rebooting the ATA.

When I logged into my Vonage account I saw an alert,

"Service Announcements
Some customers may be experiencing an issue with no dial tone. Our engineers are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience in this matter."

I hope Vonage gets it together quickly.

I found the announcement. I couldn't login to my account earlier but it's (website) working now. The tech said this is related to the outage.

No problems whatsoever here in Newark, New Jersey. I did see the service announcement on the Vonage portal late last night (2007-12-14) when I logged in to my account, I used my line a number of times after that and I experienced no difficulties whatsoever.

BTW [OT] Does anyone know what carrier is RRD, which Vonage uses to ship equipment to customers? I referred my son to Vonage, as we would both get 2 months free as per the current promo., he initiated his existing number porting from Verizon (POTS) yesterday afternoon, as of a couple of hours ago he checked his status and he saw that the adaptor that he ordered has not yet shipped (which was what we both expected) it was also indicated that it would be shipped "RRD." When I received mine at the beginning of this year it came via DHL. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Must be because of frequesnt delay issues with DHL. Might be financial reasons though.

I see, well, I'll find out who delivers my son's adapter later this week.

UPDATE: No issues whatsoever in Newark, NJ. Way to go Vonage, way to go. I hope all of you being affected by outages get your service restored soon, good thing that most, if not all of you, probably have cell phones.

Re: Vonage outage?

Mine appears to have been full restored w/o a hiccup by Saturday morning, though my dashboard account still says people might be experiencing problems.

Must have been a huge problem---never seen an announcement for that long in the dashboard before.

We haven't suffered an outage, but the Vonage line rings twice and then forwards itself to my cell phone, even though I am not and have not used call forwarding in weeks. It is my back up number for no network, but then I would guess it wouldn't ring at all. Of course standard canned response from Vonage, sorry to see you are having problems with your features.... I'm not having problems they are, why do they treat all of us like morons, just admit there is a major problem they are trying to resolve? Is that so hard?

Re: Vonage outage?

Latest announcement from the Vonage website as of 12:31 PM EST.

``During the weekend some customers experienced No Dial Tone and delay in updating features on their web accounts. This issue has been resolved. If you are still experiencing these issues, rebooting your telephone adapter corrects the problem.

To reboot your adapter, unplug the device, wait 10 seconds, and plug back in. Wait until the power LED stops blinking and becomes solid green. This will take one to two minutes. Afterwards, service should be restored”

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

I've had Vonage here in Indianapolis for a couple of months now and when it's working I like it a lot but they've had two big outages now that I know of and that is real bad. If I'd only looked into it better I'd have tried someone else. Cause Vonage sucks with a lot of things. There support is in India or somewhere like that and don't try to tell me there not. I kooked Vonage without a problem. But had trouble with my phones working on Vonage. I called and got no help at all from them. I finally got it fixed on my own by getting a new ringer device from Radio Shack. i only wish I had looked here first...

Re: Vonage outage?

I've had Vonage for 5 years. Not counting this weekend, it's been years since I had an outage of any kind. This past weekend was an extreme situation.

Anytime I've had to call Vonage in the past 2 years or so, the front line person was in Canada ... they've been pulling support back in from the "far away places".

Re: Vonage outage?

Well after a lot of huffing and puffing, I finally got through to a tech who knew what he was doing. He performed a thorough diagnostic check on my device and concluded that the ATA is bad. What puzzles me is that before Friday evening when the outage began, the ATA worked fine. Now they are telling me I need a new ATA. Something is rotten in Denmark here.

PS: HE also tried several software updates which did not work either.

Re: Vonage outage?

Wonder if this was a plot to sell more ATAs? Something to consider...Also a shutdown of the ones they couldn't completely control?!

Seriously.

People forget this is VoIP, not POTS, and there will be issues occasionally (and I've seen many more issues with other VoIP providers than Vonage), and even POTS has problems. My daughter had more damn trouble with her Verizon POTS line going dead, which took them DAYS to fix, than I can count. Over and over, the same thing. So she switched to Vonage and is very happy with it.

Neither of us had any outage this past weekend.

@whoscalling.com

The biggest problem with this outage was not the "no dial tone" It has been the abysmal customer service.

No dial tone. That is still all they claim. There were many of us that had no difficulty with dial tone but recieved HUNDREDS of phantom calls apparently an endless loop of repeates of calls made earlier in the day.

Vonage has yet to officially accept that it occured.
After fighting my way up the chain to an executive response team, the only thing I got in e-mail was a note that "we have heard reports of ...."

How can your switches make thousands of outbound calls and you not know about it?

That's what puzzled me. I had a dial-tone the whole time. What I couldn't do is receive a call; phone would ring, then nothing.

Then, the phantom calls started Saturday morning.

I never NOT had a dialtone--that wasn't the problem at all. I could even MAKE calls fine.

I've had Vonage for over 4 years -- this is the first outage that has lasted for more than a hour or so.

Everything was normal on Sunday morning around 11am Eastern time..

Dialtone came back Sat night, features (ie call forwarding, simul-ring) Sunday AM

I never lost dial tone, but practically all my calls resulted in my getting a recording that said, "we can not complete your call at this time, please try your call again later". Calls that did go through sounded like crap-breaking up, poor sound, etc. My wife wound up using her cell phone all weekend.

We've had Vonage since 2002, and this is the first time she has talked about cancelling it. The WAF has dropped considerably, Vonage!

Re: Vonage outage?

well I purchased a new ATA locally from Best Buy applied the new MAC address to my account, and a tech named ``Lovely" who was extremely nice and helpful, kept on having timeout issues with my device. I am not sure what that means (at least on their end), but she said she will have Advanced tech support contact me at 10 AM EST. I am not sure if she was American or not, but sure sounded like one and even wished me a Merry Christmas which is rare these days.
