Re: Vonage outage?

well I purchased a new ATA locally from Best Buy applied the new MAC address to my account, and a tech named ``Lovely" who was extremely nice and helpful, kept on having timeout issues with my device. I am not sure what that means (at least on their end), but she said she will have Advanced tech support contact me at 10 AM EST. I am not sure if she was American or not, but sure sounded like one and even wished me a Merry Christmas which is rare these days.

As of December 17 the outage has been resolved, all Vonage phones should have a dial tone by now

The biggest problem with this outage was not the "no dial tone" It has been the abysmal customer service.

No dial tone. That is still all they claim. There were many of us that had no difficulty with dial tone but recieved HUNDREDS of phantom calls apparently an endless loop of repeates of calls made earlier in the day.

Vonage has yet to officially accept that it occured.
After fighting my way up the chain to an executive response team, the only thing I got in e-mail was a note that "we have heard reports of ...."

How can your switches make thousands of outbound calls and you not know about it?
That's what puzzled me. I had a dial-tone the whole time. What I couldn't do is receive a call; phone would ring, then nothing.

Then, the phantom calls started Saturday morning.

I never NOT had a dialtone--that wasn't the problem at all. I could even MAKE calls fine.

I had dial tone, but most calls would not go through...

I never lost dial tone, but practically all my calls resulted in my getting a recording that said, "we can not complete your call at this time, please try your call again later". Calls that did go through sounded like crap-breaking up, poor sound, etc. My wife wound up using her cell phone all weekend.

We've had Vonage since 2002, and this is the first time she has talked about cancelling it. The WAF has dropped considerably, Vonage!

Re: Vonage outage?

I've had Vonage for over 4 years -- this is the first outage that has lasted for more than a hour or so.

Everything was normal on Sunday morning around 11am Eastern time..

Dialtone came back Sat night, features (ie call forwarding, simul-ring) Sunday AM

Wow, the tin hats are out in force!
Seriously.

People forget this is VoIP, not POTS, and there will be issues occasionally (and I've seen many more issues with other VoIP providers than Vonage), and even POTS has problems. My daughter had more damn trouble with her Verizon POTS line going dead, which took them DAYS to fix, than I can count. Over and over, the same thing. So she switched to Vonage and is very happy with it.

Neither of us had any outage this past weekend.

Wonder if this was a plot to sell more ATAs? Something to consider...Also a shutdown of the ones they couldn't completely control?!

Well if an outage occurs like this again, I guess its back to Comcast DV , but at least I'll have phone service!

I've only had Vonage for a few months and my service has been out twice for days. That's not good at all

Well after a lot of huffing and puffing, I finally got through to a tech who knew what he was doing. He performed a thorough diagnostic check on my device and concluded that the ATA is bad. What puzzles me is that before Friday evening when the outage began, the ATA worked fine. Now they are telling me I need a new ATA. Something is rotten in Denmark here.

PS: HE also tried several software updates which did not work either.

I've had Vonage for 5 years. Not counting this weekend, it's been years since I had an outage of any kind. This past weekend was an extreme situation.

Anytime I've had to call Vonage in the past 2 years or so, the front line person was in Canada ... they've been pulling support back in from the "far away places".

I've had Vonage here in Indianapolis for a couple of months now and when it's working I like it a lot but they've had two big outages now that I know of and that is real bad. If I'd only looked into it better I'd have tried someone else. Cause Vonage sucks with a lot of things. There support is in India or somewhere like that and don't try to tell me there not. I kooked Vonage without a problem. But had trouble with my phones working on Vonage. I called and got no help at all from them. I finally got it fixed on my own by getting a new ringer device from Radio Shack. i only wish I had looked here first...

Latest announcement from the Vonage website as of 12:31 PM EST.

``During the weekend some customers experienced No Dial Tone and delay in updating features on their web accounts. This issue has been resolved. If you are still experiencing these issues, rebooting your telephone adapter corrects the problem.

To reboot your adapter, unplug the device, wait 10 seconds, and plug back in. Wait until the power LED stops blinking and becomes solid green. This will take one to two minutes. Afterwards, service should be restored”

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

We haven't suffered an outage, but the Vonage line rings twice and then forwards itself to my cell phone, even though I am not and have not used call forwarding in weeks. It is my back up number for no network, but then I would guess it wouldn't ring at all. Of course standard canned response from Vonage, sorry to see you are having problems with your features.... I'm not having problems they are, why do they treat all of us like morons, just admit there is a major problem they are trying to resolve? Is that so hard?

Here is the announcement on the dasboard as of 5:17 AM EST.

``Certain customers may have experienced issues with no dial tone, or feature settings not taking effect. This has now been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and thank you for your patience in this matter."

I am still out here as I type this reply.

I'm out as well in New York City.
I was out and spoke with a rep. As of this morning, I am back up and running with no problems. I was told there was a server down and it was being repaired. They have fixed it. *I would guess) cause I am up and running back to normal.

Mine appears to have been full restored w/o a hiccup by Saturday morning, though my dashboard account still says people might be experiencing problems.

Must have been a huge problem---never seen an announcement for that long in the dashboard before.
