Heroes

Comcast can't buy this kind of press. They should give those guys a huge bonus.

Comcast has really nothing to do with this IMHO.
They were just people in the right place. Just about anyone could have done the same.

But Comcast can try to attach themselves to this by rewarding them. I'm just talking about how Comcast can use this situation to their advantage for + press for Comcast-the company.

By the same token Comcast had nothing to do with a tech drilling into a gas line. It was the own techs poor planning and judgement. As a person who makes mistakes.
But the tech didnt get the PR, his company did. Along with the myriad of other articles damming Comcast.
So a group of techs do something good.. and its no longer a reflection on the company but on the individual.

How f#%$ing typical.

What a sad world most people live in.

Techs drilling holes to get their jobs done is part of their job, saving lives is not part of their job.

It goes to Comcast as a company when there is a pattern, like

»Comcast Contractor Held For Double Murder
»Napping Comcast Tech Fired
»The Phantom Comcast Install Order
»The Cable Guy Blew Up My Powerbook
»No Ground? Exploding Dishwasher
»Botched Comcast Install Blows Up House

Perhaps now after a Comcast tech help rescue victims in the Minneapolis bridge collapse and now the fire, they can turn the neg stereotype of their techs around. Perhaps if a Comcast tech cures cancer and brings Democracy to Cuba, people will have good feelings about Comcast.

I agree, but we have to remember that Concast is not in the life saving business.

I disagree: it's Comcast's responsibility to make sure their hiring process screens out inept candidates.

And at times I wonder if they are in the ISP business either

This is classic;
"I saw flames and smoke coming around my bedroom door," said Graves, 40. "I tried to open it. I couldn't. If it weren't for the cable man at my window, I would've burnt up."

There you go. First reply to put it in perspective. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Comcast or their reputation.

You're correct! Because comcast is only allowed to be bagged on and called for the crap news and never anything positive.

I suppose the first aid training and safety courses techs are put through had very little to do as well...

... While comcast isn't in the business of 911 calls, it's comments like yours that expose some true colors around here. In other words, what you should have said, is Comcast can do no good and you'll only accept the bad.

So if this had NOTHING to do with Comcast or it's reputation because of the actions of the employees, then neither does the murder rap, the tech that fell asleep or the other recent bad press too as they only reflect on the tech.

Get real.

That too is true. I believe that anyone that holds a job and breaks the law while on the job or does something stupid like fall asleep, the employer should not be held acountable.
If im driving a Comcast truck and crash it into another car, Comcast should not be held responsible. If i decide to install a webcam in a customers shower to see them naked and im caught, comcast should not be responsible. Either legally or be up for bad press.

That word "acountable" is used way too much when legal matters are involved.
This is where greed comes in with lawsuits.
"humm, should i sue the guy that makes $35K installing cable or the multi million dollar company that he works for?"

Just stupid!

Whoever fucked up should pay, not others that are associated with them.

But this is just ME.

As a Sirius Listener Id have to disagree.
My tech drilled into a gas line. The homeowner burried the meter inside a drywall in a basement he just finished, without permits.
My tech drilled from the outside, thought he hit cinder block. Pushed harder, smelled gas.
THe firedepartment had to come and breakdown his wall to find a gas meter.
Was the tech "inept"? Was Comcast at fault for hiring an "inept employee"?
He is one of the best employees I have. I actually got Comcast to hotel them for three days because it was fall and getting cold and they had no heat now.
The tech was worried sick about the situation, I had to spend an hour convincing him he did nothing wrong. He inspected both sides of the drill site and had no way of knowing an entire gas meter was covered inside a closed wall.

Not everything is black and white... unless thats how you choose to see things.
