1 edit | [OT] Pickles!!! (..and Shepards Pie) While I'll agree with that statement when in the COUNTRY, when I travel abroad (I used to go to London every year), there's a lot to be said for sticking to chain restaurants as you know pretty much what you're getting. But if I'm REALLY adventurous, I try the local stuff and USUALLY find it pretty palatable. -- the light at the end of the tunnel is just an oncoming train.

But if I'm REALLY adventurous, I try the local stuff and USUALLY find it pretty palatable. I have two friends who traveled to th UK a few years back... When I mentioned I wanted to go there, they warned me to stay AWAY from the "local" food, and stick with "chain" restaurants... They said they had MOST of their meals at Mc Donalds, and one of them is a vegetarian! -- RIAA/MPAA... Bite me!!!! Death Penalty for parking violations! | Re: [OT] Unwritten rules in NY. WHen I finally DID start sampling the local food (except the Indian stuff which I don't like anyway), I found it surprisingly good. It's just DIFFERENT is all.
I wish I could get a GOOD shepard's pie around here! -- the light at the end of the tunnel is just an oncoming train.

| said by lilhurricane :Donovan's - Woodside said by PCInTech :Totally EXCELLENT Traditional Shephard's Pie at Ryan's Irish Pub, 151 Second Avenue (between 9th & 10th Streets). You won't regret it. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Molly's Pub, 287 3rd Avenue near 22nd Street. Sawdust on the floor, wood-burning fireplace, generous pints of Guinness and an ALSO-excellent, and reknown, Traditional Shephard's Pie. I will go anywhere for GOOD food. For ribs I go to Harlem. For hamburgers I go to Big Nick's on the upper west side. For a Reuben I go to Kats'. I love Shepard's pie, especially this time of year, so I will try out those pubs in Manhattan. Heck, I'll even travel out to Woodside, but only if it's as GOOD as Lisa says it is. Thanx for the heads up! -- Don't believe in miracles, but I do believe in love. | |

Thanx for the heads up! I think you'll like those pies, they're about equal, IMO. Homestyle Irish pies, so may be different than what you're used to. Molly's has a slight edge for the atmosphere, which is very "old World" and cozy. While you're in that neighborhood, if you're still hungry... (yea, right... LOL) check out the amazing burgers at Paul's Place, 2nd Ave, just below St. Mark's Pl. If you're a burger nut, you won't be disappointed.

| Re: [OT] Pickles!!! (..and Shepards Pie) Yeah, Queens seems to be the place for good Shepard's pie. You can also try 'The Woodhaven House', on Woodhaven Blvd. in Rego Park - its awesome.
The best I've had was in London, where they threw in kidney, and everything under the sink.
By the way, Gungerdin, I can't believe one would have a recipe for Shepard's pie. It's basically leftovers, thrown together. (I see your recipe has mentioned that in the first line, so its acceptable.)
