WHen I finally DID start sampling the local food (except the Indian stuff which I don't like anyway), I found it surprisingly good. It's just DIFFERENT is all.
I wish I could get a GOOD shepard's pie around here! -- the light at the end of the tunnel is just an oncoming train. |

Totally EXCELLENT Traditional Shephard's Pie at Ryan's Irish Pub, 151 Second Avenue (between 9th & 10th Streets). You won't regret it.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Molly's Pub, 287 3rd Avenue near 22nd Street. Sawdust on the floor, wood-burning fireplace, generous pints of Guinness and an ALSO-excellent, and reknown, Traditional Shephard's Pie. |

For hamburgers I go to Big Nick's on the upper west side. For a Reuben I go to Kats'. I love Shepard's pie, especially this time of year, so I will try out those pubs in Manhattan. Heck, I'll even travel out to Woodside, but only if it's as GOOD as Lisa says it is. Thanx for the heads up! -- Don't believe in miracles, but I do believe in love. |

Thanx for the heads up! I think you'll like those pies, they're about equal, IMO. Homestyle Irish pies, so may be different than what you're used to. Molly's has a slight edge for the atmosphere, which is very "old World" and cozy. While you're in that neighborhood, if you're still hungry... (yea, right... LOL) check out the amazing burgers at Paul's Place, 2nd Ave, just below St. Mark's Pl. If you're a burger nut, you won't be disappointed. |
