| reply to sortofageek Blast! Tier Availability in Reston, VA
I am in Reston, Virginia and I can confirm that the 16/2 Blast! service is available. We were a beta test location and I was originally getting this speed with a leased Terayon modem. When I purchased my own SB5120, my upload decreased by half and my modem boot file went from "speedtierextreme2" to "speedtierextreme". Customer support was absolutely clueless and no help at all when attempting to troubleshoot the loss of my previous upload speeds from simply swapping a modem. I explained that I had 16/2 speeds for months and I even referred to mailers advertising the 16/2 service in my area, but I just kept getting a script read back to me about 8/768 speeds.
I am happy to report that after a brownout this evening, I reset my router and modem and I finally see 16/2 again. A check of my modem logs indicate that I now have the following boot file: DHCP: ACK: Setting (*) CM TFTP Boot file: d11_m_sb5120_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm. It has been several months since I last had this upload speed. Hopefully it will stay this time. I did not do anything unusual on my end that I have not tried at least a dozen times or more in the past. |

I assume that is 16/2. It's great they upped us even though FIOS isn't available for me. This is the Toms River, NJ area.
I thought that when you got blast that you don't get powerboost anymore, but I am. I get speeds of 35Mb and then it settles at 19Mb steady. It's odd because I thought I wouldnt get boost anymore and also my speed is 3Mb faster than what Blast should be at steady speeds. These observations are from watching downloads of very big files not speed tests. |

The javascript speed tests are all wonky for me and reported much higher download speeds that mimicked results of Powerboost. After some investigating, I discovered it was not Powerboost, as I saw no spikes when downloading the bigger OOL FTP test files when using a local bandwidth meter. |

I am definetly getting powerboost with my blast. I have sustained speeds on 4GB downloads of 35Mb for the first 30 seconds or so of the download then it settles to 19Mb, if I pause the download it will go right to 35Mb on restart and then settle to 19Mb just as normal powerboost used to do when I had 8Mb service. |
