| Speedstream 6520 - bad firmware
I apologize if this has been asked, but I did a search and couldn't quite find a topic on this matter.
Thinking that I should probably update the firmware on my SpeedStream 6520, I went to the Siemens website and found a newer version. I didn't quite realize that not only does Bell Sympatico have its own version of the firmware, but the generic one doesn't seem to work with the service, and there doesn't seem to be a way to downgrade.
I found this out after three hours on the phone with them. Does anyone know a way to configure it? It makes a connection with the DSL, but it doesn't successfully get one with PPPoE 8/35. It's asking for more than just the username and password, which I have. It's asking for an access concentrator and service provider name.
Would bridging it directly to the PC be a possible solution?
I'd really appreciate any further suggestions or information. Thank you. |

Forgot to add, ignore the initial setup screen when it asks you for the 8/35 PPPoE username/password/access concentrator/service provider info. Do make sure you configure an admin password though. -- GO LEAFS GO! Don't question the authoritaaaa! |

I didn't quite realize that not only does Bell Sympatico have its own version of the firmware, but the generic one doesn't seem to work with the service, Slight correction, you went to Siemens Australian/New Zealand ISPs Website and blindly installed the Australian/New Zealand Firmware made for ISPs in those Countries as there isn't a Generic Firmware. You are lucky it is also Annex A Firmware and not Annex B Firmware which would have toasted your 6520.
It is fortunate that it only required setting the proper VC (Virtual Circuit) Pair to enable it to work again. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

Configure the Virtual Circuit like I have instructed above and it will allow it, it basically allows both routed & bridged PPPoE at the same time. -- GO LEAFS GO! Don't question the authoritaaaa! |
