I was so hyped up about it, I insisted on going to ELNs headquarters to get my software and book. You needed a TCP stack in those days since windows didn't have one. They also were handing out static IPs. I walked into this little hallway of an office in Los Feliz, and was greeted by a guy who called himself Sky. Little did I know who he was. I heard the modems answering in a closet and asked if I could see the rig. He said no way, the higher-ups won't allow that. I heard a bit later they moved (or expanded) across the street so they could have a bit more room. Then came Sprint, etc. and they had a whole building in Pasadena, and so it went. I used to call a guy named Jay Vaughn for tech support. I heard it was he and Sky who started this thing with money they had when they sold a coffee house or something like that. -- There is not a man in the country that can't make a living for himself and family. But he can't make a living for them AND his government, the way his government is living. What the government has got to do is live as cheap as the people. - Will Rogers |
