Want to Leave Bell. What is a good alternative?

Hi, I have been on Bell Sympatico services for over an year now and used to get a reasonable service. Over the last 3 months they have started charging me 30$ a month for exceeding the bandwidth limit and now they have resorted to throttling my torrent Downloads. I plan to say goodbye to them and move on but i am not sure of what service to opt for instead. I want something that gives me unlimited bandwidth and connection speeds of around 5Mb down and preferablly no throttle limits. I am prepared to pay upto 60$ a month max for this. I've heard of TekSavvy but some guy said hat bell owns the lines and will not allow u to get on it.

Thanx for any help

I would definitely recommend Teksavvy to anyone wanting to jump ship from Bell. Go to their forum and ask there about how easy it is to sign on with them. I have the utmost respect for the Teksavvy group. »TekSavvy

With you're budget you should ask how many hundreds GB
you can get per month and don't forget to tell your friends!

Go for it!  It's P2P nirvana!  Make that line come hot red!...

Good day Jackr,

Your criticism never stops. I guess it's more of an obsession at this point. Please explain how Acanac is ripping anyone off?

At least your comments have given me the opportunity prove you wrong.

We will give anyone here a Free DSL login account for a 30 day period. As long as you currently have DSL service your ready to go. (It will work with most DSL providers) Please just send me a private message and I will send you back your PPPOE login info.

Best Regards,
Paul

And I'm getting farking sick of you and your company treating this like your own personal forum. If you're so farking tired of me as a customer, then buy me out. Return 100% of my money that I've spent on your shitty service, and I'll be happy to never ever in a billion years use Acanac again. You have my name, phone number and Mastercard number on file. All you have to do is refund me, send me a notice of refund and the matter is closed. In the meantime, I'd suggest you quit trying to stifle me when I express the opine that you're service is less than spectacular, or you have my promise that come the new year I'll spend the $1500 to $3000 in retainer fee's and we can settle this as a civil matter in an Ontario court room. I'm sure CTV, Rogers, The Toronto Star and others would love to read the coverage.

Just as a side note, I WAS a loyal Rogers user for 8 years and I can state that not once in those 8 years was I ever treated with the rudeness, and lack of customer satisfaction that I've experienced with Acnac.

I will add to Paul's response, to explain how I can see the logic of choosing Acanac, and the logic of not choosing them.

I am a happy Teksavvy customer with a group (i.e., $3 discount) and tried to convince a friend to join. She was thinking about Acanac due to the low price for the first 12 months.

I told her the basics as I saw it and she chose Acanac:

Pro (vs. other DSL providers): low price for the first 12 months, 30 day guarantee

Con: full 1st year charged in advance, price after 12 months is more than other ISP's, technical support may be harder to get hold of.

In the end, I could see the logic of choosing Acanac and the logic of not choosing Acanac. My brother got a refund on VOIP without problem (the refund was requested based on a price misunderstanding), so I assured her that she should be able to get a DSL refund as promised if there is an issue.

In the event that she has issues and she feels that Acanac is unreasonable, I will be sure to post them here. Until then, if you want the lowest price for 12 months, Acanac seems like a decent choice.

Jackr I have in the past already offered you a full refund. I believe my offer is still available here in these very forums. If your not satisfied with our service I would be more than happy to offer you a full refund. Not just for the remainder of your term.

The anger you have towards Acanac is just not worth it. Life is better spent on more important things. Please send me a PM with your contact information and a full refund will be issued.

Paul

I don't know what else we could of done to satisfy your needs. DSL is distance dependent and we tried many times with Bell to get your profile raised. We also tried to move you to a remote. Your to far from the CO. It's as simple as that.

This is one of the main reason that we offer a 30 day money back guarantee. Acanac has no real way to know what Bell will set a clients profile at. This way if your a new client and your not happy your DSL speeds a full refund is issued.

I don't know to many companies that offer this type of satisfaction guarantee.

I'm not trying to step in here; however, I'd like to vouch for Paul from Acanac. He is honestly a stand up guy and very honest. He was able to help us out for a month and didn't want any money in return even though we offered to pay.

In the end we're all wholesalers of Bell and competitors but he put that past him and understood our situation.

I'm sure Paul will refund your money even though you've been using their Internet service which isn't really fair but as he stated it's not worth it for them.

Colba bordered on some sort of money-laundering scam operation. Issues people here had:

- The sign-up process involved calling a number, waiting on hold, speaking to a person at a callcentre whose only job is to take our name and number so that a REAL employee can call us back.
- They promised 24-mbit service, provided 0.3mbit service, a problem experienced by everybody on the CO
- The issues were not isolated, but widespread, affecting everyone on their DSLAM at the CO
- Their tech support was unreachable, causing (me) to waste $30-40 on cellphone charges. Call them, wait on hold for 20 minutes, get sent to voicemail, leave a message, never get called back. Ever. At least other people probably only lost the time and not the money like I did.
- When you did manage to reach their tech support, they barely spoke English, were incompetent (kept telling us our poor performance was an issue with the e-mail server, which is insane), and lied (every day for at least two weeks they claimed it would be fixed the next day)
- Their staff disappeared from DSLR right after they signed the lot of us up, and hasn't been heard from since
- They charged us $80 for modems with an MSRP of $35
- Apparently, in addition to their broken equipment in the CO, their actual transit links are oversaturated
- Invoices, bills, and documentation for the service arrived from a completely different company without any explanation or warning.
- Canceling the service was an AOL-like nightmare, with them refusing to allow cancellation via phone, requiring e-mail (even though it was from gmail). Some of their contact e-mail addresses returned account-not-found errors. They then proceeded to ignore the cancellation e-mails. I only managed to cancel my service after mail-bombing every single e-mail address I could find on their English site, their French site (the two sites have different contact info), and the mysterious "other" company's site. They were then so confusing in their lack of English comprehension that they had me convinced that they intended to charge me for the next months' service even though I was still halfway through the first month when I canceled.
- Most of these issues were not isolated to just me, but experienced by all other Colba customers in the area. Most of us signed up about the same time, and canceled about the same time.

Nothing else, off the top of my head. It was the worst customer service I had ever experienced in my entire life.

Acanac, by comparison, is saintly. They've got a little bit of a rep for being a budget-quality service (cheap prices, average service quality), but they do have a good reputation for quality of customer service. I think you're being unreasonably harsh on them, especially with all the guarantees and offers they made to you. You weren't happy with their service, they offered you your money back, what more could you want?
