In the meantime, would setting up an instance of Remote Assistance possibly work? In that case, both the host and the client are able to view the output. I dont know if its as robust at RDP, or how long you can stay connected, but do you think that would work?

The images attached are a (very poor!) representation of what I am trying to do, just in case I wasnt clear. You will notice in the "desired set up" diagram that Laptop 1 is greyed out; this is because I am looking to only have the display be visible on the RDP client (laptop 2) and the TV.

I don't know. But it will keep the laptop from "turning off" when you close the lid.

On the laptop, look in control panel > power options > advanced.
There should be an option (drop-down box) to adjust the behaviour of the laptop when the lid is shut. Try the "do nothing" option. |

| For years, I have used remote desktop (RDP) to control a desktop computer via my laptop. This was set up because the desktop had all my media files on it, and it was connected to the TV and the audio equipment. It was fantastic, I could sit on the couch and play all my music via my sound system, and surf the web on my TV (via the desktop). My desktop died a few months ago and I replaced it with a laptop. The problem I have now is that whenever I log into the laptop via RDP the display (on the laptop and the TV) automatically switches to the Windows login screen as opposed to displaying the local content. I figured that if I closed the laptop perhaps that would "force" the display to go the TV, however that (obviously) just shuts down the machine. Do I need to have the laptop in a dock so that I can close it, while still displaying on the TV or remote desktop machine?
