Even Mozilla and Norton admit it:

There is however some good reasons to use a multi layered protection, like a mail filtering program. -- ~~Get our troops home...now!!~~ |

Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | The reason all paid AV's include a mail scanner is because the public expects one and doesn't want to buy an AV without one. You are correct that one is not needed, but the public doesn't know this. They also are ignorant of the fact Microsoft has repeatedly stated that NO mail scanner should be use on Outlook Express because the database is fragile. If you read the Microsoft OE NewsGroup you will see the MVP's telling everyone over and over that their problem that caused them to come to the NG is likely caused by their letting their AV scan OE mail. So, including one in AV products is due to marketing and ignorance on the part of the public. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet.
