[poll] Remote Access Software-2008 Member Choice

Remote access software is used to control another computer from a remote location either on a network or over the internet. It can be used by customer service reps or by users to help friends and family with computer problems. When used with a home network it can save a lot of walking back and forth between computers. There are several different "flavors" of software in use. A very popular type uses your web browser and connects to the remote machine through a web site. This has the advantages of simple setup and overcomes problems with firewalls. Another popular one is based on the VNC protocol, many of which are free open source programs. Others are based on propritory protocols. Most contain some form of encryption for security reasons and require usernames and passwords to take control of the remote machine.

Yep. Have had it on for years on my computer. Nothing beats going into any windows computer, typing mstsc.exe and logging into my own computer.

Very nice Poll Bobkd4dii

I do not use Remote Access Software. So I voted : None
I have no need for them ATM.

Long time ago I tried VNC. Worked fine for me, but I was just to concerned about security.

I don't use it anymore, but GOTOMYPC is a popular one.

Edit: and how about Windows NetMeeting?

Well I use remote desktop under a ssh tunnel (copssh). Love the combination as it offers high security and will allow me to pretty much access my network from anywhere as long as I have the encryption key.

my vote goes for RealVNC as it works quite well. I used to like TightVNC but it did not work so well in Vista.

great poll

While we have MS RDP for server we use IntelliAdmin Lan Edition for connecting to endusers. It autoinstall and remove itself after connecting to enduser for support.

·TekSavvy Solutions..

LogMeIn has proven invaluable for me. I use it not only to connect to my own computers, but to connect to my client's computers, who are still amazed over how quickly I can fix their computer problems over the Internet from an entirely different city.

I used LogMeIn. And have used Remote Desktop Connection from Microsoft.

LogMeIn is great because now it supports both Mac and Windows. And you can connect to a Mac using Windows and vice versa.

I use WinXP professional Remote control as well as RADMIN. Radmin allows command line interfacing. Which can be really nice when you need to change an account password.
