they would have to disconnect his cable from theirs to connect theirs...his order allows that to happen.

But since this isnt a shock that a company "lost" an order but really hadnt i'm wondering what the news is hear? Comcast does this, ATT does this. Verizon does this.

So again this is news how? or why? Bad things happen. No company is perfect.

The real question is how did/do they resolve the issue to the customer.

Oh and this isn't Slamming so he can just get over that

Yeah, the guy who wrote the blog REFUSED to accept 3 calls from Verizon (It is in the blog) after this process started. As far as I am concerned, he is part of the problem and should have taken those calls. How does he know those calls would not have resolved the whole issue?
I am sick of people behaving like professional "victims" all the time.

No business is perfect is a poor justification for being dumb.

That doesnt matter that gives them no right to rip out his cable and take over vonages phone service when he tol;d them not to. So you are saying I can come over to your house cut you verizon service out and replace it with cabelvision and you cant do a darn thing to me?

That is just plain stupid.

Perhaps you don't see it but if you read his blog, he had the opportunity to take 3 calls from Verizon. How do you know that call number 1 was not from Verizon saying "sorry Matt, the order placed on the 7th fell through the cracks but we have re-scheduled for the 29th...is that OK?" but YOU and I will never know because he refused to take the calls so he is as much a part of the problem as Verizon is. You can't have it both ways in life, yes Verizon does screw up and so does every other cable company in the world. You need to be part of the solution and answering calls from the company you originally placed the calls with is part of that responsibility.
I never said it was ok to rip up his lawn or disconnect his service. He needed to be more proactive in this situation.

Having a realistic outlook and grasp on life requires all of us to be pro-active. Survival.

I agree too, He should have talked to Verizon when they called, It's the only way to get stuff done, Otherwise they could go on to the next person thinking You're not home.

He checked his messages though... the messages were a generic "We want to talk to you", they should have left some actual information if there was a change in status.

While I sympathize with this guy's plight and I hate Verizon as much as the next guy, your statement disregards the fact that he:

a) placed an order with Verizon (which they lost)
b) provided authorization for Verizon to port his number
c) ignored calls from Verizon's CS department

The techs who did the physical install did not "rip out his cable and take over vonages phone service when he told them not to". They cut the cable by accident and fixed everything they screwed up that same day. If you think that there is some massive Verizon contractor conspiracy out there disconnecting citizens' cables and connecting their own, you should turn off your computer and go back to watching Oliver Stone movies.

Also, once you provide authorization to port your number, it's getting ported - lost FiOS order or not. The FiOS order is a separate order than the number porting. It's highly unfortunate that he couldn't get an order number from VZN to begin with and it's even unlikely that they explained the LNP process to him in detail. Since the LNP order went through, then there is absolutely nothing that Verizon can do - they were correct in that they cannot help him get things back to the way they were, whether it was their fault or not. If he had contacted Vonage like they told him off the bat instead of throwing a fit, he might have been able to get the number back faster.

If you review the posts that certain people make, sometimes they are very pro Cablevision and anti-Verizon IMHO, but I could be wrong.

I also suffered from a Verizon installation mess. I ordered Verizon FIOS and was stood up twice. I stayed home from work for the installation. All they did was apologized.

Why is it, we are trying to Humanize some of these mistakes, when it is the Machines or the Interface between the Machines and Humans that may be the culprit.

Software is a part of all these transactions - someone tried to enter an order, it completed but with a wrong code for the service, wrong number in the wrong field or who knows what that caused the Service Order to fail.

Has anyone ever worked with some of these companies' CRM [Customer Relationship Management] software?

Why do we not blame Siebel, IBM, Oracle and others??

GIGO still applies in 2007 as it did with the first PC.

Funny. If someone says the same thing in a Comcast news story that is just as worthless, they are a fanboy shill that is obviously paid by Comcast to defend them and they get flamed to Hell. Wonder why nobody attacked YOUR post yet?

Just to be clear, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Sometimes the news here is pretty ridiculous. But when you say stuff like that, you get the "I don't see you contributing anything" speech.

Ok, here's MY headline: "The sun went down tonight: Is the moon trying to take over the world?" IDK, I think that is just as interesting if not more so.
