I have Dish Network HD and I am happy with it, but I would
probably be happier with Directv, because Directv right now offers MSG HD, FSNY HD, and MLB EI.
The bottom line in choosing between the two is getting the
HD channels that you want.
Dish is not cheaper than Directv. Dish charges $20 for
HD and $5 or $6 for locals. Locals are included with Directv and the HD access fee is $9.99. The Dish promotion
may be cheaper than Directv, but after the promotion runs
out there is no difference or Dish is more. If you have multiple DVRs, Directv only charges one $6.00 DVR fee
while Dish charges $6.00 for each DVR. |

| DirecTV charges for local channels as well. Of course why would you want to when you can get an HD attn for $50 and get true HD for free. Also DirecTV charges for their HD channel line up as well. And it is more then $10 per month.
Also DISH as dual tuner receivers and DirecTV does not.

All DirecTV DVRs are dual tuner receivers just like DISH. That's what allows you to view one channel and record another at the same time.
The DirecTV HD Access fee, which provides the HD mirror of any SD channels, is $9.99 per month. If you want the HD Extra pack (5 channels that do not broadcast in SD - HDNet Movies, MGM, MHD, Smithsonian, Universal), that's a separate $4.99 fee, and is free for 3 months if you sign up now.
And if you already buy locals from DirecTV, the HD version is included. A necessity for some people - like me - who would need a 160 foot tall tower to get an OTA signal. |

Called Multi-Room Viewing, that capability is rumored to be coming "soon" - whatever that means. And since it is rumor, to me that means it doesn't exist.
And so that you don't misunderstand about locals:
- you pay for the local package
- if you also pay for the HD Access pack, HD locals are included.
But you have to buy both the local pack and the HD Access to get HD Locals.
