cwake13 : That's odd. I remember in the past when I tried upgrading to the MAX 10/1 they kept saying i HAD to get their crappy SMC modem, but then my telephone service wouldn't work? I just said upgrade the speed! And they said oh sorry your modem can't handle more than 5mbit so we can't. The next day I was upgraded to 10/1 automatically through the VIP free upgrade so looks like they were wrong.

This time I simply called and got a CSR and I asked to upgrade, and she said ok I went ahead and added it on for you. It was maybe a 2 minute conversation...

The only problem though now is that I'm getting somewhere in between the 15/1 and 20/2 speeds. My highest speed test is around 15.5Mbit/1.5Mbit but most of the time I test at around 12-14mbit down. It's very weird because I remember during the time they upgraded VIP customers to 15/1 for free for a short time, I always got 14.6Mbit down which is normal. But this time I'm not? I don't live in a heavily populated area or in a big city or anything so it's not like the node I'm on is getting sucked, I get the same results when testing late at night.

Do I just assume it will get better by June 30?

I sure hope your qwest works better than my sisters. She changed and can hardly wait for their year to be up so they can change back. She has had nothing but trouble since she changed. Speeds are real slow and definitely not at the level she is paying for. If Mediacom is running about a week ahead in getting it deployed then in about 4 weeks the new speeds should be in place. As for me, I do not have much to decide on. The local phone company's dsl speeds are definitely not highspeed. If I take there tv along with the dsl I will get a download of about 1000 and upload of 256 and the cost with tv would run right at $200. Shoot Mediacom has them blown out of the water on speeds alone. That is for me, your mileage may differ.

Mediacom, like many other cable companies, runs into frequent utilization issues that often take a considerable time (months-year) to resolve. Mediacom is still using Docsis 1.1, and therefore, it doesn't take many users to saturate their local network. Those speeds are great if you can get them and maintain them with a reasonable amount of time. But according to many of the users here in the past months, some don't even get Mediacom's current 15/1 "max" speeds due to over utilization.
