Toggle the URL already posted warning

Instead of doing away with the "URL Already posted warning" it should be a configurable option on an individual user basis.

What's the point of having it if some people can disable it.

Why not make it so the forum mods have the ability to turn it or off for their forum? Justin pointed out that probably the reason for the difference in opinions on whether or not the feature is useful is because it is useful in some forums but not in others. Who knows better than the forum mods whether or not the feature is useful and needed in a specfic forum?

Because there's no unanimity among members of any forum.

The notification should be there. It's informative.

It appears it won't change because of Justin's comment in the other thread. For those of us that feel it provides no value, we'll continue to ignore it. For those that have ADD and are side tracked to whatever other thread might have the same URL, you can continue to do so.

Looks like the "warning" message now says:
In case you are interested:

Maybe they can really feed the ADD crowd and change the "and x other times" to be a hyperlink to a search for that URL. Then they can completely forget they were actually trying to make a post.

What does "unanimity among forum members" have to do with this issue? I'm confused. Justin said the reason some like it and some don't is dependent on the forums they frequent as it is useful in some forums but not in others so again I ask, respectfully, why not let the mods of each forum decide whether the feature is useful or not for that forum?

It is NOT ONE extra click. You have to reclick every time you preview and I preview longer posts maybe 4-5 times as it much easier to read the preview than what is in this small box even I enlarge the box with my Fx extension. Plus, it is much easier to catch left out words in preview than in the text box.

It gets ridiculous seeing the warning over and over and over for one post as though I didn't see the warning the first time. I never post worthless links nor do I post the same link in the same thread that someone else has already posted. I guess I never go to the forums where this is useful. I can't imagine why anyone would insist on posting a link again that was posted three posts above theirs.

It makes no sense to not post the link unless the link is already posted in the thread. Posting a link to another thread where the link is located that you intended to post but were warned about is generally not helpful to the OP who doesn't need the hassle of having to click on another thread to find the link that might get their computer bootable again. The OP is in distress and I am not going to make that distress worse! The only reason to post the link to another thread would be if that thread had an identical problem to the OP's and had a fix but not because it had a useful link in it. It is better for the OP to post the link in the current thread unless the other thread has very useful information for the OP and even then it is easier on the already stressed out OP if he can click on a link that is right there rather than having to go to another thread to find the link.

I just think the warning is worthless in the help forums and if it is useful in what? The political forums? Where? I can't see where it would be useful but if it is then I already posted the best solution which is let the mods of each forum decide if this "feature" will be turned on for that forum.

Seeing as you frequent the Security forum it comes in quite handy while posting "news" links. You should know that by now.
