Hi Barry, I don't have any intention to run a softphone for this service. So, I wouldn't know how its configurations are. You will have to start poking around the softphone to find out if it has a support for STUN, outbound proxy, or a SIP Registrar Address server, etc.

Livadia : Has anyone tried the call quality between regular phones (i.e. no computer involved)? This is the scenario: I have a Montreal number that I have set it to forward all calls to my PSTN number. If someone in Montreal makes a regular PSTN call to that freephoneline MTL number then my home telephone should ring.

How is the quality in this type of calls? I could try once, but just one try is not indicative of the quality. Maybe a few responses will give a better picture.

anon : Well I don't think it's a port issue. I called a buddy from my PC to his PC and it worked perfect. I called the same person on his land based line and he could hear me but I could not hear him. When he called me from his land based line it never picked up on his end even though I answered and it showed as connected on my PC.

I cannot get this to work calling a land based phone.

You will have to ask FreePhoneLine what ports are used on its softphone. AFAIK, you are better off using STUN options instead of manually open ports on your router.

anon : try port 6060 instead of 5060. It seems that freephoneline is using 6060. As my softphone does not work, I tried "check network connection" from freephoneline softphone, and it gave info about 6060 and another one (donot remember).

This sounded like a NAT/Firewall issue. Did you configure your softphone with STUN options if your computer is connected to an Internet feed behind a NAT/Firewall router?

mazilo : I tried using the DID number (1416xxxxxxx) as a user name and my PAP2v1 seems to register without a problem; however, when I called my number from UK, I got into my voicemail. :(

EDIT: I placed some local calls to Toronto and I kept getting This password is not valid error messages. :D

Send an e-mail to them and ask if they support, the answer is 'currently we don't support hardware yet', which means they may support hardware client in the future.

fortissimo : Link works now. Company info not obvious, but in Terms, it shows the Controller's name, and her email address as @worldline.ca , I think Worldline is a LD provider, not as much a VOIP provider, so may be this is a test market act.

Tried to sign up, but Get Number shows "No Numbers Left" for either Toronto or Quebec. But front screen shows not 5000 in total yet. Not sure.

But I think the sign up page is too simple and a script can be used to eat up all the numbers. They should put a graphics text for screening like many sites do.
