It would be several percentage points lower as shown by previous AVC tests done before the AVG AM came out. However, the addition of a good AS program does improve the overall detection.
IN spite of that all the folks I know use only AVG free and have been free of infections for years.
Thanks for the clarification. Jerry |

Seems to hold it's own quite well with the big boys. As I mentioned in another reply to Jer03, it was AVG Anti-Malware that was tested at AV-Comparatives. Not AVG Pro. AVG Anti-Malware has the Ewido anti-malware engine incorporated into the AVG Pro program. So, AVG Pro would score several percentage points lower then the results on AV Comparatives.
I'm not knocking AVG Pro or AVG Free. But I just wanted to make it clear that users won't be getting the same level of protection as described on AV-Comparatives.
Also, no version of AVG has rootkit detection. That includes AVG Anti-Malware.
AVG version 8 will add rootkit detection. It's currently in BETA. -- Dr. Web + BOCLEAN: Anti-Malware + Router/SPI |

| I'm aware that AVG AM was used in the tests and I agree with you that without the AM it would score lower. As far as the rootkit detection, I don't think I'd fully trust any AV fully with that job. I use the layered approach and was aware at the time of its capabilities. I did not not start using AVG because it was the best av, but for a combination of reasons including the smoothness of its operation, low resources and a totally trouble free operation. Something I did not get with the so called top av's. And it does an adequate job of detection. Let's just say it works well on my system. Dan -- VoicePulse 07/29/04 |

Dan I totally agree. I just was making a point of noting that AVG Free, AVG Pro, AVG Anti-Malware have no rootkit detection for those users that only use these programs for their computer security. For those users who don't use a layered approach as you and I do.
I would suggest AVG users consider adding another anti-malware program to cover for the lack of rootkit detection in AVG.
Rootkits are a very real and present threat to computer security. Depending ONLY on an Anti-virus that has no rootkit detection is just asking for potential trouble. -- Dr. Web + BOCLEAN: Anti-Malware + Router/SPI |

According to a recent test conducted by anti-malware.ru
Kaspersky and Dr. Web anti-virus were the top two in this test.
Several stand alone rootkit scanners were tested as well. -- Dr. Web + BOCLEAN: Anti-Malware + Router/SPI |

Including Avira Rootkit detection which is now integrated into Avira PE. My reading of the chart is that its overall score equalled KAV and beat Dr. Web. FWIW. |
