2 edits | reply to exocet_cm My computer is on 24/7 with battery ups backup,if I died the only reason anyone would need a password is if they turned the computer off.
But!! If there was a power failure the battery backup would only run for so long,so I guess in that case they would need a password.
Which only I would know. So oh well F**k em than. -- "The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is." |

| reply to exocet_cm A bit confusing. Since it is multiple choice, I gave multiple answers even though they might seem to contradict.
The problem is that there are different kinds of passwords.
There are the passwords used for banking and similar businesses. Those are shared with another person.
There are passwords for work computer accounts. Those are not shared with anybody.
Then there are "throw away" passwords for web sites (including dslr). Nobody other than me needs them, so if they are lost when I die - too bad.
And most of them are also in an encrypted file that exists on several computers, so that failure of one hard drive won't result in their loss. The encryption passphrase is not recorded anywhere (other than in my memory). -- AT&T dsl; Westell 2200 modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.8 |

Computer? Logs on without password. nothing important on here - except maybe some auto-logons at various "sites". -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

jmorlanHmm... That's funny.Premium,MVM join:2001-02-05 Pacifica, CA kudos:4 | reply to exocet_cm I use Roboform so there's a database of encrypted passwords for logging into websites on the local system. Anyway, that's how I voted. There are other passwords, such as the logon to my laptop which I keep to myself. |

I thought about this during this thread creation. It is fine, even with myself I have contradicting answers.
I chose the most "important" passwords: IE: those that stick for any given amount of time (not temporary). I updated the main post to reflect this.

 Bubba17Less is MorePremium join:2006-09-21 | reply to exocet_cm Nicely executed poll, exocet_cm.
We use Roboform exclusively. I made three selections.
Myself and fetching Mrs. each have our own USB stick with Robo portable (I chose USB Encrypted).
Course, all box-based passwords are encrypted by Roboform (I chose Local System Encrypted).
And, I backup all Roboform passwords to DVD (chose DVD Encrypted).
(I also backup all passwords, doubly encrypted, to online storage, Amazon S3, and should have chosen Encrypted Other, my bad.) -- HN7000s | Horizons 1 (127W) | Gateway: 1110Mhz | Dish: .98m 2 Watt | Pro+

 | reply to exocet_cm I have a small notebook containing my passwords. There's stuff going back to the mid 1990s (many defunct sites) so it's time to prune them down quite a bit. |

nwrickertsand groperPremium,MVM join:2004-09-04 Geneva, IL kudos:7 | I use PGP (really GnuPG) to encrypt. The passphase for my PGP key is remembered. I don't write that anywhere. I use it often enough (even if only for checking my password file) that I am not likely to forget it. |
