Re: Actiontec rebooting on its own

said by jchuan83388 See Profile :

For whatever reason, my router is rebooting every three to four minutes. Fiber solutions is aware of this issue and they are sending a new router to me. They did not tell me what the issue was, just sending a replacement. Odd!
I just got a new router and it was STILL rebooting every few minutes or so. The CSR I spoke with on Christmas Eve, immediately stated that there is a now known issue with some of the Actiontec routers with the 4.0.16.1.55.xxxxxx firmware. They emailed me a newer firmware with a 56 in place of the 55 and the router hasn't rebooted yet. I have attached the firmware here just don't scream at me if it don't help ya.

edit to fix a typo.

Re: Actiontec rebooting on its own

Thats newer than the version on the Verizon site: »www2.verizon.net/micro/actiontec···ntec.asp, which is currently 4.0.16.1.55.0.10.4.3-MI424WR.rmt

The router's upgrade path is set to: »https://upgrade.actiontec.com/MI424WR/MI424WR.rmt, which will download file containing "4.0.16.1.55.0.10.4.3 version: 40016" (viewed with hex editor, did not install)

Wonder if the .56 version is "production ready" or still in testing? Must be a significant problem if they are willing to send it out via CSR.

Verizon sending a patch tonight to the routers. But you can force the upgrade now from the router software or download the file and manually install. It is now posted on the verizon website at www.verizon.net/actiontecbhr

Mine is fine after flashing it.

This new bios revision also gives me better wifi security as well.

Will the Firmware update automatically? I am not familiar with the .rmt file.

FYI, I don't recall installing this firmware but looked and it had been installed on Jan 31. Since then my connection has been very flaky. I'll get random disconnects requiring reboot of the router. Sometimes wireless will go out without wired... and sometimes only the wired will go out. I reverted to my previous one (which is quite old) and it seems to be working fine again. Who knows... Just watch out as the latest doesn't seem to function properly for me. Did Verizon push this out from their end?

Some say problems have been fixed by it, others say it's worse and have to keep reverting the forced update. So, depending on who you ask, some would agree VZ pushed it out from someone's end.

Sorry, couldn't resist!

UPDATE, my firmware was automatically updated again last night and it seemed to get screwy again. I did the "force update" and it reinstalled the current firmware and everything seems to be working smoothly.
