*SIGN* for the original idea of the forum. I think it'd be awesome to read some of the really good ideas I'm sure people on DSLR have.

Strong *OBJECT* to restricted access. We already have enough specific-topic forums that are restricted here. It's a real downer to see an interesting thread mentioned somewhere, click on it, then get a big red box stating "YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS." Saying that your account has to be older than 15 days to post is fine, since that would nicely stop the stock spammers without stopping casual reading.

I wouldn't suggest an out and out "finance" forum, but a "Money Matters" forum where people can discuss ANYTHING related to money, including current events, house/property buying and finance, credit cards and credit, fraud and how to be protected from it, fraud alerts (which would be in the best interest of ALL of us here!!!), investing, world economics, political leaders and their affects on our finances, and anything else Germaine to money and how it touches our lives.

Yes indeed, there is the pub, but in my VERY humble opinion the pub has devolved into just another Watercooler that is too populated with mean spirited trolls who use harassing posts and insulting/sarcastic language to create a hostile visitor environment for their own perverse pleasure.

I say let these bad people have their pub for being mean to folks, there is no way for us to rid ourselves of these people, as the mods have not already done so, and, after all, banning users is a VERY touchy thing!

But a forum with a more formal, professional, and useful/meaningful charter fully dedicated to money is VERY advised.

IMHO, ***ANY*** forum that has the great potential to help our members live a better quality of life is a worthy forum if it can be self sustaining, and indeed, a money matters forum would probably take off like a rocket on too much fuel!

Just my humble opinion. We need something other than the pub, the pub has devolved so bad I don't go there any longer.

Think this is a good idea. Maybe pick the brains of a few financial "experts". Find out what the best interest for on-line banking currently is. Lowest interest credit cards offered, etc.

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Period. However, frivolous lawsuits tend to be penalized more often than not.

In any case, take a video game for example. All computer software and/or games these days usually have a sticker or notice on the outside saying "by breaking this seal you agree to the EULA enclosed within or at »blah.com". The courts have repeatedly found in FAVOUR of companies providing they have such a warning. A webforum with an agreement gate would be no different. "By reading and/or posting to this forum you agree that you understand that BBR and its subsidiaries/wtfever will be held harmless. This forum is for independent discussion, and the posts belong to the posters. Blah Blah Blah, etc etc, more legalese, etc"

I don't use the Pub, but Finance is a good, and useful, topic. Look at the Home Repair & Improvement forum - how many times was it requested, and the typical reply was the same

if the forum was macro economics,
that would be a good idea, but it
must prevent specific stock ideas.
people who want to discuss specific
stocks should go to yahoo or others.
mutual fund discussion would be OK,
since they deal with a basket of stocks
that reflect a macro economic opinion.
discussions of finance related issues
such as Taxes and Tort Laws would be
OK, but not any specific private entity
that deals with them in public.
It would be OK to discuss a market sector,
but not a specific stock play, so you
could talk about Hard Drive makers, but
not endorse buying that Oceangate stock.
It should be OK to link people to other
independent articles endorsing specific
service providers or stocks, as long as
the hosting sight is clearly impartial.
discussions of markets and commodities
would be OK, but not the instruments
used to trade them, so you'd have to
have a pretty vigilant forum admin.

Good grief people!!! Why in the world would you object to the creation of a forum that you know you would never visit.

What am I supposed to do in response... object to every forum that I myself never visits? I have no objection to ANY forum that I don't plan on visiting.

I for one would like a Financial forum so that I can contribute to the discussion of Dave Ramsey's talk show.

If an opposing vote negates the request then how is it possible that there is a Blue Room and a Red Room? Just create the forum and be done with it.

As a young adult just getting ready to enter the world of home ownership, I can definitely see the need for this.

dslreports has become about much more than just DSL! I think the forum would be fitting and welcome.

Those who don't like it, simply wouldn't have to visit it.
