NEW! MI424WR FW 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7

I had called Verizon yesterday calling about a problem with my AcT router, they said a certain batch of ROM files that went out were bad, so they sent me a new FW that is not out yet, they said it was supposed to be posted today, but I guese its not, this is what the message said "This procedure is only to be used with BHR's that constantly reboot and are on the 4.0.16.1.55.0.10.4 or 4.0.16.1.55.0.10.4.3 firmware releases.

Open the file Actiontec BHR Upgrade 10_7.doc for instructions."

How can you tell which hardware version of the router you have? I have the older style but when I look at the stickers on the back, I do not see a version number.

It's in the router. System Monitoring --> Router Status. Hardware Version is 3rd row down.

Firmware Version: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7
Model Name: MI424-WR
Hardware Version: A

From what I understand, there is no difference between the new router and the old router from a hardware aspect, its only the case and packaging of the device that has changed.

It's been mentioned before, the new units have newer MoCA and wireless chipsets (new units support WPA2, old ones don't).

New firmware's been posted at the usual spot for those who don't feel like downloading from an untrusted source...

WPA2 has always been a firmware update on all routers, and I bought 3 OLD Actiontecs and put in the new firmware and WPA2 works on them. the old ones have Broadcom chipsets the new ones have a different one and I forget now the brand.

Maybe I'm confused. My menu looks like yours, but where does it say WPA2? I don't have anything around that can test it. Hard-wired only.

WPA2 is only available on Rev. C and Rev. D routers - the Verizon-branded slim-line versions of the Actiontec. Rev. A does not support WPA2.

Thanks. Thought there was a hardware mod involved. Router reports Hardware Version "A", just like noping's post above. I assume that means WPA version 1.

Do you know if there are any plans to have the stupid Nat issue looked at, I am tired of this router freezing up when I go to play counter strike.

It doesn't. I was quoting rtcy's post +supplied a screenshot from the older unit where, as you can see, no WPA2.

Use your own router. Problem solved, and you'll be much happier using your own device.

I'm wondering the same thing. My Rev. C router was losing power (power light would go out) and consequently Internet. This has been occurring since having the Actiontec installed in August but I finally--around the holidays--decided to try to correct the issue. There was no frequency to the loss and it was only a momentary loss but a loss nonetheless. It could happen three or four times a day. The first tech sent out a new power supply but that didn't help. Verizon sent me the Rev. D version and I installed it last night. I upgraded the firmware to version .7. I have a Xbox 360 attached with the Xbox wireless adapter. I was concerned that the ports would have to be reconfigured and that prompted my decision to upgrade the FW. I'm not a geek by any means but I've noticed that the new revision displays the time correctly and has the correct starting and ending dates for daylight saving time. I did contact tech support last night during the install and the tech told me that the port forwarding issues had been taken care of. I wasn't convinced but I was able to do a little testing of the 360 connection last night and once I typed in the correct encryption key, my NAT came up open and I didn't appear to have any connection issues. I'll know more after I've had a few days to play with it. So far so good. It is also mandatory that you have to assign the router your own user-created user name and password. I guess I'll sum it up by saying at this point I'm cautiously optimistic that this is a signficant improvement over revision C.

I have had my router about 14 months now so it must be one of the older ones. AES works just fine here.

Well my router kept rebooting itself all the time and would not connect to Verizon, now it works flawlessly, also as an addendem, I DMZ my AcT. to my AirPort Extreme which connects wirelessly to my 360 and get an open NAT.

OK. I just successfully upgraded to the new firmware. Let's see how it goes.

I noticed that, too. All devices that have been assigned IPs are showing up, whether connected or not. Those not connected are shown as "inactive." I guess this is a new "feature" that as added. I wonder if there's a menu item somewhere that will allow to only select active devices.

Before this update, my Denon receiver was not properly pulling an IP via DHCP unless I actually used its NET functions (Internet radio, etc).

Now the Denon always has an IP and I can connect to it with my computer the moment I turn it on.

This FW is not an "official" release from Actiontec (beta testing). So if it breaks your router sorry. it's being testing in fixing some issues.
rhm5757

join:2003-07-16

Yeah, I had problems with static DHCP assignments when I tested this version. The router would lose the static assignments, which would break port forwarding when devices got different IP addresses from what they were supposed to have. Apparently it's still buggy.

I had the same problem with the router losing static assignments. I decided to roll back the firmware to the previous version till they resolve the issue. The rollback worked flawlessly.

I dl'd it and installed and it works.

When I tried to upgrade from the website using the admin settings, it wouldn't work. Maybe because of those bad ROM files?

Anyway, I don't have the newest Rev C router hooked up and everything seems to be ok for now, FYI

I have the newer, revision C Actiontec, and was having no problems with the prev. firmware. I DID however install the newer firmware, and the only difference I'm seeing is that the "Network" column is now showing every LAN machine my network has, whether they are currently connected or not. Before, the only machines showing were those currently active.

Edit a few days later: that must have been a result of lease times or something related, as the network is reporting correctly now.

I updated to the new FW and noticed "Bandwidth Monitoring" in the advanced "System Monitoring" area. I don't recall seeing it there before.

My Actiontec Rev. C router started going through a constant reboot cycle that the new FW seems to have corrected.

Looks like the firmware is now rolled out on both the Verizon and ActionTec websites: »www2.verizon.net/micro/actiontec···ntec.asp, »https://upgrade.actiontec.com/MI424WR/MI424WR.rmt

Clean upgrade for me. It kept my custom rules. No WPA2, but didn't have it before.

That bandwidth monitoring looks like it tracks tx/rx data rates over the last 8 hours. Not number of bytes, just the rate in kbps. Wonder how that info gets back to Verizon.

I was going to upgrade both my routers today and they were already done.

So far no problems.

Another issue I've found since upgrading to the new firmware. As a note, I've had so many issues with my new firmware that I reloaded the firmware again onto the actiontec.

Now, when I go to My Computer's "Network Connections", I see a new icon called "Internet Connection", which Windows tells me is an internet gateway.

Disabling this also disables my Actiontec router from reaching the internet!

How do I get rid of this connection on my computer and get my ActionTec to always remain on without my computer's intervention?

Re: NEW! MI424WR FW 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7

That's not from your router. It's a PC configuration. Sounds like you have Internet Connection Sharing turned on. Something you installed (or some software that did it for you). The only thing your PC does is talk to the router using your browser.

If there's nothing unusual, I'd delete that connection and reinstall the network drivers- Client for Micrsoft Networks, File / printer sharing, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

For DHCP, select "obtain an IP address automatically". For static addresses, enter manually.

Re: NEW! MI424WR FW 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7

Thanks.

I actually discovered it was due to the service "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client" being installed in my computer.

I blamed it on the router because of the new firmware that just got installed. In actuality, it was because I have network drives on my computer that send out the SSDP signals.

Previously, my computer was behind another switch, which prevented it from receiving the SSDP signals (I assume, but am not sure). Also tonight, I redid the wiring on my network, and the network drives and my computer are now hard-wired into the ActionTec. This is why I probably just found out about this. (None of my previous network setups had the network drives and my laptop connected to the same ethernet ports).

Thanks Geekgirl1 for your help!

On a computer with a default Windows XP installation, connecting it to a router with UPnP enabled will cause the "Internet Connection" thing to show up. It doesn't seem to do anything, other than break things if you disable it.

It is not specific to the Actiontec, this occurs with any router that has UPnP enabled.
