[DSL] AOL UK for Vista laptop - have to pay out for new modem?

My partner has an AOL wired broadband package and she has a pc running XP connecting to AOL with a BT Voyager 105 USB modem - we are in the UK I should add!

Her daughter has now bought a laptop running Vista, and AOL advise that she will have to buy a new ethernet modem (BT Voyager 190/NetGear DG834/Thomson SpeedTouch 510) to connect to AOL as the existing USB modem isn't Vista compatible.

Do you think my partner has any leverage with AOL to request a free ethernet modem? - it seems a bit harsh to have to buy new hardware just to run a Vista machine! Also, I guess if she was signing up as a new user she would get a free ethernet modem anyway.

Also, does anyone know if the two pcs could use AOL at the same time - with the USB modem and the ethernet modem both connected to the phone line via a splitter?

Thank you in advance for any advice or thoughts on the matter!

Re: [DSL] AOL UK for Vista laptop - have to pay out for new mode

ive had alot of experience wit aol. and unfortunately its not aols fault as vista was released too early and is not compatible with a lot of products not jus aol equipment. but wat aol will do is if u ring in customer service you can upgrade ur package to get a new router, might also reduce ur price per month. this new router, (prob a speed touch or netgear) is fully compatible wit all forms of windows. and can be used the exact same way as ur bt voyager but u can use the new laptop wirelesly wit it at the same time. i find aol tech v helpful setting up my router. but def worth ringing in and check out possibility of an upgrade price plan.

Have same problem - when I log in it tells me that I am already logged in - but same problem with XP on desktop as well as laptop with Vista. AFter 2.5 hours AOL did offer free new modem but would have to sign up for another 12 months - anyone got a fix yet
