Re: Traffic shaping timeline graph

Hi mate,

Been a while since I posted here, glad to see you folks are still as dedicated to helping out. 'specially cause I need it. I just spen 2 days for over an hour and a half on the phone with the tech support @sympatico and the employee I spoike to refused to let me talk to a tech level 2 and flatly denied there was any kind or shape of bandwidth management based on application usage.

So I am to understand this employee lied to my face. Did he not?

But in any case I have the same problem, all my applications suffer when I use a bittorrent client. What can be done?

Thanks.

Re: Traffic shaping timeline graph

Just wanted to point out the following for those of you who had issues with Xbox Live over the holidays and thought it was a result of traffic management:

"Microsoft Corp said on Thursday it will offer a free downloadable video game to users of its Xbox online gaming service after the network was plagued with connection troubles over the holidays."

Over the holidays I've experienced disconnections during my online gaming. Is this caused by the traffic shaping? Browsing seems fine and then when I go to play World of Warcraft my connection craps out. The modem/router doesn't seem to reset itself so I have to manually do a power up/down on them. And I don't even download anything! This is ridiculous!

For World of Warcraft issue folks, you really need to look at disabling their "background updater". It's a bit torrent client that helps download the next patch while you play.

With Sympatico, you need to keep your max upload below 30kb/s or a lot of the modems start to have issues. This is because the error count grows and the connection gets unstable.

To disable it:

From the background down load program go:

File -> Options -> Disable background downloader

Yeah I've noticed the same, 20 to 30kb/s is probably the sweet spot when playing WoW while not hurting your Private tracker torrent ratios.

Also with WoW I don't expect a 70ms latency... I usually get within 140ms to 230ms in average.
