Ridiculous

The Actiontec router has a ridiculously SMALL NAT table so that bittorrent type applications make the router reboot or worse, they barely work at all. The fix would be to increase the NAT table but then Verizon don't want that since users would actually use bittorrent and thus consume bandwidth.

The solution : make it clear to the Verizon tech NOT to install that lame router. Just ask for a regular fiber to Ethernet bridge and use your own router running DD-WRT or similar.

Um no. The router handles the coax for updates to the STB menus, directory, etc. Plus the Actiontec model is pretty robust, it does WPA, it has decent navigation (compared to some router models out there), and the Wifi signal has been pretty solid (feeds my 2nd story Mac and 2 Airport Express for streaming audio and repeating).

Yes, Verizon could make the URL for updating "automatic" instead of "disabled" (checking the firmware update screen, it needs to be done manually and default points to Actiontec and not Verizon).

Better yet, I wonder how many FIOS subscribers with this model actually know to use a browser to connect?

(BTW, I reboot mine often to get new IP....don't ask!)

Huh? I've been using BT on my Actiontec without any problems for the month that I've had FiOS and been averaging 5 Mbit upload during that time.
