| [Equipment] how to unlock PAP2T
Hello,
I went though the forum and found lots about PAP2 but not much about PAP2T. I just bought a PAP2T but before I hook it up, i wanted some help from you professionals.
How can i make sure my PAP2T is unlocked and factory reset safe.
Is there any PAP2T-NA firmware i should be loading on my PAP2T before i connect it to the internet?
How can i make sure it does not get locked after i connect the adapter to the internet?
The config/admin page of my PAP2T looks exactly like the one at: »myevent123.com/admin
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

1 edit | If it looks identical to the one you linked to, then it's a PAP2T-NA and you have nothing to worry about. The way you tell, is because the "Customization" field shows "Open". A factory reset unsafe adapter would have displayed "Customized" in that field.
However, the owner of that PAP2T you linked to should be very worried. He/She better wisen up and at the very least password protect his adapter, or some wisecrack is bound to come across it and lock it with a password or worse. Yikes! Who in their right mind puts up their adapter wide open for the world to access? |

@airtelbroadband.in | Thanks for your reply. So that means I don't have to load any PAP2T-NA firmware and i can start using the adapter after connecting to the internet and configuring with VOIP provider info?
Thanks a lot! |

So that means I don't have to load any PAP2T-NA firmware and ... AFAIK, there is only one version of a PAP2T firmware that fits all. |

| reply to vish Unlike the RT31P2/WRT54GP2, which because of licensing agreements with providers have different non-interchangeable firmwares (including specific -NA versions that won't load in the provider branded units), the PAP2T only comes with one generic firmware variant that fits all open (-NA) as well as provider locked units. The locking is done through data programmed into areas of the flash that are not part of the firmware. You can continue using the firmware currently on it, or if you wish, confidently upgrade to the latest PAP2T firmware available for download from Linksys. |

If the pap2t get locked after I hook it to the internet, can I unlock it by this method below:
connect a phone to line 1and plug in the power. pick up the phone and dial **** then it will go into the configuration menu where i dial 73738# it will ask if i want to proceed with this, then press 1 to reset/unlock it.
I will then be able to reprogram with any sip info?
Thanks again guys! appreciate your time and response |

correct me if i am wrong, pap2t-na means made/sold in north america, if label says pap2t-as means it's sold in asia, pap2-eu europe and so on.....so pap2t other than -NA can also be unlocked by Linksys when it's made? DogFace05 mentioned if "Customization" field shows "Open" it is unlocked version, regardless if the label is pap2t-as or anything.
thanks |

| The -NA is the generic factory unlocked North American model. There are many other denominations for other markets, many such as the -EU which are also unlocked from the factory. I've never actually seen a PAP2T that was factory customized to any provider (not that there aren't any, I just haven't seen any--I've seen plenty of other models that were, though), but I've seen several PAP2T-NAs from different sources, which were preconfigured with password locks by providers prior to delivery to end customers.
Any such model (in fact any model that has "Customization: Open") will factory reset to unlocked default settings. The trick is to be able to perform the factory reset, since providers generally password protect that function.
In your case, your adapter appears to be completely open as it is, and it is not customized, so it has no way to self lock to any provider, unless you let a provider take over control of it, by letting them provision it. |

DogFace05 mentioned if "Customization" field shows "Open" it is unlocked version, regardless if the label is pap2t-as or anything. I believe DogFace05 meant the device is not factory locked. Some VoSPs distribute their ATA devices, including PAP2v1-NA and/or PAP2T-NA, with some passwords to lock them even though the Customization field shows Open. Try to lock your PAP2v1-NA and it will still show Open. Although I must admit that when I re-flashed one of my NAized PAP2v1 by DogFace05 with a firmware v3.1.9, it still showed Not Customized even though I could safely factory reset the device without fearing it to get re-locked. This NAized PAP2v1 once re-flashed with a newer firmware shows Open. |
