We know that the usage is high during those hours, but the trend here suggests that its done on a timed basis, regardless of the network congestion. -- GO LEAFS GO! Don't question the authoritaaaa! |

Re: Traffic shaping timeline graph I would imagine its either directly automated or timed to be enable during the heaviest traffic periods. Gotta remember there are several million customers, all with probably fairly constant usage patterns, not really a hard thing to adjust for. I dont agree with their throttling practices, but I dont think they are intentionally screwing with anyone in regards to it. -- Intel Q6600 | 8800GTX | Ipods suck |

Naw, let's throttle instead.
{moderated} the fact remains, it sucks to be throttled. |

 | Hard caps would have been a better option rather than pissing off the customers with a poorly throttled connection. I am not trying to put down the IT guys at BS, but they could have done a much better job or bought better equipment to actually identify torrent data which is possible even when encrypted, you can monitor the behavior of the client based on how many connections they have open and how they connect. I have worked long enough in IT to relise this, we do throttling internally and it is controlled to torrents only.
I will say one thing about throttling torrents though, there are many valid reasons to use a torrent like grab a linux image and this just gets thrown out the window when stuff like this is implemented. The hard cap is the only option, while harsh would be acceptable, at least then they could cash in in on the 25 dollar premium or whatever it is for unlimited usage by the 5% of customers that actually go over 60 gb a month. |

 | reply to HiVolt Should've done your test on Christmas eve a day very few would be on the internet. But alas, the findings would be exactly the same. |
