Re: [Vista] What is it that causes it to take up so much memory?

Your being given some bad advice. Most of the people on dslreports seem to be power users and gamers who think bigger/faster is always better.

The vast majority of users don't need more than 1Gig RAM for standard Vista or 2Gig for Multimedia Vista. Only if your doing some power user stuff like running professional photography software or video editing software or CAD or are a hard core gamer do you need to look at bigger/faster.

The OP has apparently noticed a difference....what's the big deal about adding more RAM? It's certainly cheap enough. That isn't bad advice at all.

And I beg to differ with your blanket statement that "Your [sic] being given some bad advice. Most people on dlsreports seem to be power users and gamers who think bigger/faster is always better".

People on DSLR give advice based on the individual's circumstances and questions, NOT on what they themselves are doing or using.

You are absolutly right, but it is your post that is the bad advice not based on fact or experience.

I use Vista every day all day. I do things most people would NEVER ever do on it besides all the regular stuff and always have all sorts of stuff loaded at the same time in addition to multiple websites, multiple tabs etc..

I have installed Vista Ultimate for other people but mostly only deal with Standard Vista Business edition.

I'm not a gamer and don't use CAD. I do some Photoshop and Illustrator stuff. My system has 2Gig but Vista rarely if EVER goes over 1Gig (yes superfetch and Aero is on). Please explain to me how my knowledge is not based on fact or experience???? Please explain to me how someone posting that their explanation of how "4Gig is the sweet spot" and then going on to explain they use Microstation and AutoCad and hardcore games is not considered an unusual use of a home PC?
