Insight to Comcast Customer Transition, over here!

As one of many Insight customers who are now Comcast as of 1/1/08, I just wanted to say hello. As far as any immediate changes, Comcast is saying nothing will change for now...I guess we shall see. Anyway, here's wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

Edit: Currently, I'm paying $80 per month for 15/1.5

Mod Edit: Changed title, so everyone can find the topic. ~sorto'

Welcome!

If it's anything like Adelphia, you'll stay on 15/1.5, or maybe go to 16/1 or 16/2.

I am coming over from insight as well, hopefully Comcast does not mess with my 10/1 basic internet. I liked our old forum better, bunch of strangers here and it smells like soup.

Even with a hard reboot of my modem I'm still listed as dhcp.insightbb.com. Looks as if the switch to the darkside has taken a vacation for a day do to the holiday. Television content and logo have yet to change on the cable box as well.

If it is anything like the Adelphia transition, it will take a few months to be assimilated.

I guess we're in a kind of ISP limbo....a connection without a real home.

Sounds like we're becoming part of the Borg collective!

"We are Comcast.. you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

Anyways, I'm here too now. I'm going to miss Insight, but hopefully when they assume (or switch) our backbone and everything else over, they don't muck everything up.

Maybe if they do start mucking stuff up, Verizon will finally start offering 7M/768K to new customers by then....

Edit: Still getting decent speeds... its going to take them a little while to mess.. switch things over.

But you are... but you are...

Seriously, at first, you won't see much of a change because, well, not much has changed. You are currently running through the same network equipment that you using before. The same routes through the same routers.

Eventually, that equipment will be 'assimilated' into the Borg, er... Comcast network. It will be renamed, given IP addresses from the Comcast block, and added to the Comcast network routing.

Once that happens, you will likely see IP addresses in the Comcast range (ie. 76.19...), assigned a Comcast DNS server (if you do that automatically), and, eventually, you'll receive an email telling how to transition your email to your new Comcastic email account.

The only thing that I see that's changed is the information on channel 1 (I think that's a local access channel). I powered off my STB, powered back up, and channel 1 now says "Welcome to Comcast. Your Insight service is now Comcast. Please check your mail in the upcoming weeks for more information."

I'm still listed as dhcp.insightbb.com as well, though I have yet to reboot my modem.

As long as the connection is solid and my speeds stay the same. I honestly could care less whose name things are under. Just figured we might see some evidence of the switch. Or even have a bit of down time do to the transition. Hopefully that last part won't be the case.

So far the first day on Comcrap sucks @ss, a mere coincident maybe.....maybe not. Today was the first day I had to reboot my Modem and Router in 6-8 months.

My real world download speeds are the worst they've been since before Insight went to 10.0. I aways get 1,100-1,200 K/sec, today out of the blue I'm only getting 450-500 K/sec.

Just a weird coincident..... it better be.

@insightbb.com

Being from Springfield, this is my first day for Comcast myself. I can see nothing good coming from this change. Reading the mainstream news reports about the company's blocking traffic through rather dubious means and wading through 20+ pages of rants here about the bandwidth police, makes me very apprehensive. This is at least in part because it appears to be quite arbitrary whether you are targeted or not.
Springfield DOES have alternatives, though none are very good AFAIK.

Question - How far do I need to move to get FOIS?

Re: Yup, it's Comcast now

I'm originally from the beason/lincoln/clinton/forsyth area myself, and personally i'd liek to see my parents in Aregenta get Comcast. They actually have the money to get the optics going out that way, digital service may actually come to them.

Can't remember if they had Insight, or the other one... media something.

Slowness, and intermittant service will probably happen every so often as they work on it. They will be replacing hardware/software, also they will be getting the CMTS ready for DOCSIS 3.0. Also upgrading outdated hardware could also cause you problems.

Give it a few months.

Well, I'm a new Comcaster too.

My STB DVR on channel 1 still says Insight and my IP is still Insight-claimed.

So, no hard changes yet.

It's weird that subscribers in Springfield have reported seeing Comcast ads, etc., on their local cable feeds. Here in Peoria I haven't seen any signs of Comcast branding. They're still playing ads for Insight 10.0 slamming DSL. Living practically down the street from what appears to be the regional office in Peoria, I drove past the office. I don't see any Comcast branding on the building or vehicles. In addition, I am still getting the same results on speed tests that I usually do, and my IP hasn't changed.

Let's hope for a slow transition to Comcast so they have longer to mess with our rates and good internet speeds.

EDIT: After I posted this message, I noticed that the message on Channel 1 of our DVR says 'Welcome To Comcast...Your Insight service is now Comcast'. Guess this is the start of things to come.

Re: Yup, it's Comcast now

The past few days I actually saw a mix of advertisements for both companies. The cable box logo etc seems to still be the same. My internet connection seems to still be using the Insight pipe etc. Trucks and other signage may take a bit to show up. Several articles on the subject have stated this.

There is now a message on my cable box that states that our Insight is now Comcast. This wasn't there earlier.

Insight played with Sandvine as well. So Insight customers coming to Comcast are used to that.

Re: Yup, it's Comcast now

Just FYI-
You guys DO realize that it will take months for everything to transition over, right?

Way back in the day when Comcast took over my "at that time" Adelphia area, it was almost a full 11 months for the complete change.

Just want to set expectations for ya!

Re: Yup, it's Comcast now

Matt, you have to remember that most of these guys from Insight, have higher expectations, then those parties that have been with Comcast for sometime. Even myself, I use commonsense to think things through, and only if I cannot get the answer on my own, or want a 2nd opinion, then I choose to openly discuss it.

Myself personally, as long as my cable service is active when I turn on the TV, or my phone still works, or my Internet is still running, then no worries.

FairTriplePlay

@comcast.net

My deepest sympathies to anyone who uses bittorrent. Comcast squeezes (screws) their bt customers for every last MB. Enjoy!!

Hmmm. I haven't noticed any decrease in my torrents. In fact, it's been the opposite. My speeds have gone way up, in most downloads maxing out my bandwidth (750-800 KB/s). Either Sandvine isn't here (which I doubt) or Comcast is really lax with torrents/caps/etc here.
