Sounds like we're becoming part of the Borg collective!
"We are Comcast.. you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."
Anyways, I'm here too now. I'm going to miss Insight, but hopefully when they assume (or switch) our backbone and everything else over, they don't muck everything up.
Maybe if they do start mucking stuff up, Verizon will finally start offering 7M/768K to new customers by then....
Edit: Still getting decent speeds... its going to take them a little while to mess.. switch things over.

1 edit | reply to INTENS1 It's weird that subscribers in Springfield have reported seeing Comcast ads, etc., on their local cable feeds. Here in Peoria I haven't seen any signs of Comcast branding. They're still playing ads for Insight 10.0 slamming DSL. Living practically down the street from what appears to be the regional office in Peoria, I drove past the office. I don't see any Comcast branding on the building or vehicles. In addition, I am still getting the same results on speed tests that I usually do, and my IP hasn't changed.
Let's hope for a slow transition to Comcast so they have longer to mess with our rates and good internet speeds.
EDIT: After I posted this message, I noticed that the message on Channel 1 of our DVR says 'Welcome To Comcast...Your Insight service is now Comcast'. Guess this is the start of things to come. |

1 edit | The past few days I actually saw a mix of advertisements for both companies. The cable box logo etc seems to still be the same. My internet connection seems to still be using the Insight pipe etc. Trucks and other signage may take a bit to show up. Several articles on the subject have stated this.
There is now a message on my cable box that states that our Insight is now Comcast. This wasn't there earlier. -- Test PC Security Cable Diagnostics Blog ZoneAlarm Help Vista x64 Comcast BroadVox Direct |

Seriously, at first, you won't see much of a change because, well, not much has changed. You are currently running through the same network equipment that you using before. The same routes through the same routers.
Eventually, that equipment will be 'assimilated' into the Borg, er... Comcast network. It will be renamed, given IP addresses from the Comcast block, and added to the Comcast network routing.
Once that happens, you will likely see IP addresses in the Comcast range (ie. 76.19...), assigned a Comcast DNS server (if you do that automatically), and, eventually, you'll receive an email telling how to transition your email to your new Comcastic email account. -- New to Forum Life? | Just FYI- You guys DO realize that it will take months for everything to transition over, right?
Way back in the day when Comcast took over my "at that time" Adelphia area, it was almost a full 11 months for the complete change.

| Matt, you have to remember that most of these guys from Insight, have higher expectations, then those parties that have been with Comcast for sometime. Even myself, I use commonsense to think things through, and only if I cannot get the answer on my own, or want a 2nd opinion, then I choose to openly discuss it.
Myself personally, as long as my cable service is active when I turn on the TV, or my phone still works, or my Internet is still running, then no worries. |

| reply to INTENS1 Hi I too am a newbie from Insight to Comcast. I started here within 2 weeks of cable Internet coming to town in 1999 as a ATT @Home, We then went to Insight @Home and on to Insightbb. Been pretty happy since Insight did their own thing. But I have a feeling we are going to regress too.
Time will tell. |

1 edit | reply to INTENS1 From Local news today, read last paragraph:
INDIANAPOLIS -- Comcast Corp. on Wednesday said it completed its acquisition of most of Insight Communication Co.'s cable operations in Indiana.
With the deal, Comcast now serves Insight's 270,000 subscribers in Bloomington, Anderson, Lafayette and Kokomo.
Comcast and Insight had co-owned the cable systems serving those customers, but Insight was the company serving those people.
The transaction is part of a larger split of Midwest cable systems that Comcast and Insight had owned together. As a result of the split, Comcast now owns 100 percent of the former partnership's cable systems serving Illinois customers in the Rockford/Dixon, Quincy/Macomb, Period and Champaign/Urbana areas, as well as the previously mentioned Indiana areas.
The split also gives Insight 100 percent ownership of the ex-partnership's cable systems in Evansville, as well as systems serving Kentucky customers in Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green and Covington, and customers in Columbus, Ohio.
Comcast said the customers it gained from Insight will see no immediate changes in programming, channel lineups or pricing. |
